The next Nexus might be the Galaxy Nexus Plus. Here's the rumored specs.

When it comes to Samsung, they seemingly have a never ending supply of Android devices, blanketing the the smartphone market with phones in every spec, shape, size, and color. I guess that’s why this story makes a lot of sense. It’s been rumored since earlier this year that Samsung could be cooking up a refreshed Galaxy Nexus, to update the aging Nexus’ spec sheet. The boys at SamMobile got their hands on this spec sheet for the Samsung GT-I9260, with a model number fitting the device square between the current Galaxy Nexus (I9250), and the Galaxy S3 (I9300).

The spec sheet goes onto to list some upgrades to some the specs that many have felt held back the Galaxy Nexus from true greatness like it’s poor processor, horrible camera sensor, and lack of expandable memory. As you can see from the above spec sheet, an updated 1.5GHz (unspecified processor) A9 processor has been listed and could be the higher-end OMAP 4470 with beefier PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Also listed is an 8MP rear camera with 1.9MP front facing camera which, if bringing along with it an improved camera sensor, could mean drastically better picture quality. The display is also listed as matching that of the Galaxy S3, improving the quality of the original. The most shocking update is the inclusion of an SD card slot, something die-hard Android users have been vocal about the Galaxy Nexus lacking (along with any other new Android device launching without).

Exciting? Most definitely (if true). I guess the next question is, when will this Galaxy Nexus Plus be released and if it’s possible to have too many Nexus phones out at one time? Nah…

Looks like the industry trends are too powerful to go against. Looks like the Nexus this year will be Samsung's version of the iPhone (insertnumberhere)S. We all figure the iPhone 5 will go dual-core just like the Galaxy S3 did, and the Nexus is doing the same, all for that powerhungry LTE radio.

Doesn't look like the specs will be worth upgrading for, unless you really hate the camera, are dying to play dem vidyagames faster, and can't live without an SD slot. I probably won't be buying a new phone until 2013 from the looks of it.

An improved camera and GPU is welcomed from me but I'm not sure if it is enough for me to go for.

I'll have to wait and see if anything else big is bought to the table before going for it if this turns out to be correct.

Seeing how this would still be less than a Galaxy SIII, I doubt this is the "next Nexus phone", sounds more like a spec bump mid-cycle for a phone still being sold.

Actually, I wouldn't be at all surprised if these specs were accurate or close to what the next Nexus will be.

The Nexus line never really pushes specs, and is more of a reflection of the year's technologies, than technology representing a new year (which it ought to be, and sort of was with the Nexus One).

So specs that are on par or just a touch above the GSIII? Not surprised. (Maybe international version will be quad-core?) However, the SD Card makes me a disbeliever that this particular story is true.

I agree with OP; I don't think I'll be upgrading this year, but I guess it'll also depend on the price. If they can bring this Nexus in close to or even the same as it currently is at $350, unlocked, that'd be pretty nuts. What I'll upgrade to will also depend on what the next gen iPhone looks like too, but as I've said before, the ship is sailing on that one...

I agree with you, from what I have READ (no actual knowledge on this fact) is that developers (whom the Nexus is designed for) are pretty adamant against SD card slots for some reason.... Perhaps this is just an offering to your average Joe and then they will release a developer version of the Nexus?

The camera was fixed in an Android update since the reviews came out and it works well enough for most people now. It's not iPhone 4S quality, but rather, more like the iPhone 4, I'd say.

The battery is indeed the main issue with the Galaxy Nexus. It will only last you a day's charge if you use it frequently through the day. Personally, I don't have an issue with this since I always plug in my phone before bed anyway.

Others out there find the 3.5" iPhone 4S screen to the pathetically small, and don't even get me started on its 960x640 resolution, never mind the ludicrously nonstandard, senseless, and obviously non-HD 1136x640 screen that the iPhone 5 will have. Heard of 1280x720, Apple?

Agreed. The camera is awful. Any moderately low light setting, the pictures come out terrible. When there's lots of light, the camera is good. To be frank, if this generation's Nexus is priced right and the camera is much improved, I'd consider upgrading.

I actually find the battery to be one of the best I've ever experienced. I have an unlocked GSM one from Google Play that I use on T-Mobile. HSPA+ is such a better alternative to LTE. My battery can last 15+ hours with decent use (constant texting and emailing, some browsing & music playing during commute, some games/reading).

I know mileage varies with LTE version, though. I'm never adverse to even more battery life.

Nexus's have always come with a new OS and supported by Google. It's never been about the hardware, it's a developers phone. It's what apps are based off of. So in that sense I'd say it's not going to be a Nexus.

However seeing how popular the gnex was but it lacking a moderate update would be a welcome thing. So in that sense it could be, like mentioned galaxy nexus S to the iPhone world.

Calling the omap4460 a poor CPU is really stretching it. At the time it was the best all around chip between the balance of chipset features, speed, battery, and radio support. The powersgx 540 in it is no slouch. USS the galaxy nexus in jellybean. I would never call it slow. Also it is by far the most open chip set out which is why it makes sense in thr nexus.

According to a report out of Android Noodles, a document showing the winter roadmap for Japan’s Docomo, lists out three (3) different Nexus devices. The three manufacturers on their list are Samsung, LG, and Sony. The report mentions a 3-column table that references the three devices, however, no picture or further proof was provided.

There could be more to it then that. Maybe profits are somehow split or something and making a Nexus is more of a hassle then its worth.

I'd like to see what Sony brings to the table though specs of the Xperia S are the best on the market, at least at its release. Its still better then most especially when it comes to the screen.

Don't see this happening since google tries to promote their products by withholding the SD card slot option.

Moto and HTC make terrible phones. HTC has nice quality materials for some of its phones, but they're terribly defective compared to Samsung, Nokia, Sony or Apple phones.

I think every manufacturer should have a Nexus phone. It would be the best move to get Android into people's hands and the best way for users to have total control of their phone. Screw carriers.
