I also read in my Christmas Radio Times that Tennant topped the swordfighting class at his drama school, winning a prestigious award for his talents, along with a generous £15-worth of prize money! If your leading man's got these talents, you may as well make use of them... ;)

Cool, didn't realize this! :)

One very, very minor detail I did like – in a couple of the wide shots of London you could spot St Stephens (Big Ben) clad in scaffolding, obviously still being rebuilt from the damage it suffered during the Slytheen's botched invasion... :D

Ah yes, I noticed that as well - very cool indeed, a very nice touch!

I also wasn't expecting Torchwood to be mentioned so much. Guess we'll see what all comes of that.... I thought that Jack Harkness was from the future, so I wonder how he'll play in the whole thing...

I wonder how many Americans Download Top Gear, A Car show? Its shown on the BBC and appears to also be popular. Once I missed it and missed the repeat so I downloaded it, Is this bad really, I pay for the TV license. When the BBC open up its TV download site I will certainly use that.

I also believe that programs such as the OC etc should be shown in the UK and in other countries a week or so after its shown in America This way not many people would download it, as most people can wait a few days! Companies would not lose as much revenue, Burning to DVD? well if the show is good like the OC and Family guy, I will certainly go and buy the DVD, is nice to have it, to add to my growing collection!

That's great, but what does this have to do with Doctor Who? :p ;)

I have every episode of the OC, and download it each week - simply because I don't want to watch the christmas episode in mid-may. The christmas episode this year was several weeks before christmas, so I'm sure if they were to put it out a week or so later in the UK there'd be no problems!

Although, there is the slight point that I don't really like watching TV. I prefer to sit in my cubby hole with my powermac :)

Sorry, but I thought it was an interesting point!!

It's not actually the first time Torchwood has been mentioned – it came up in one of the Weakest Link questions in Bad Wolf. Apparently, the Great Cobalt Pyramid was 'built on the ruins of the Old Earth Torchwood Institute'. Something I spotted watching my Christmas DVD! :p

Yes, I caught this as well. It has since been documented in related wikipedia articles actually. :)

It is intriguing, too, that obviously Torchwood becomes a very major institution, (in)famous enough that it would evidently be somewhat common knowledge far in the future to warrant being a question on The Weakest Link. If it was something minor, obscure, or nothing really came out of it, it wouldn't be so well known, relatively speaking. So it will indeed be interesting to see what Torchwood exactly is, and how Captain Jack figures into thew whole thing since he is supposedly from the future. Hopefully the Captain will have more success with this spin-off then K-9 did.

Some good news for our American friends – one of the US networks has finally decided to broadcast series 27. It'll be on the air in March on the Sci Fi Channel, round about the same time we in the UK will be enjoying series 28.

And us here in Canada too. :) Ah well, we can't expect the States to keep with us in these matters, can we? It's not their fault. :p ;)

Yep, looking forward to Season 28 - only a few short months away!

Since this has become pretty much the official Doctor Who thread in this forum maybe the thread title should be changed?

Anyway I'm happy to hear that America will finally be taken out of the dark ages (I mean that in the nicest way!) and into good old fashion kinky British quality material! :D

I just can't wait to see what the Cybermen will be like! Oh dear Spring just can't arrive fast enough! :(

Funny you should say that, I was just thinking about the same thing the other day. I was debating whether I should create a new thread for Season 28 this spring, or continue the discussion here, even though the title wouldn't really apply anymore. Maybe I'll bring it up to one of the Mods and see what they think. If we changed it to "The Official 'Doctor Who' Thread" I think that would be alright. Anyone else have any opinions or suggestions? The only other thing would be to ensure that those subscribed to the thread would still receive posting notifications and such.

Absolutely - that's one of the many things I wouldn't be able to stand if I lived in the States - being without the quality broadcasting from the BBC! Many of them don't know what they're missing! ;)

Agreed. As I said in an earlier post, I'm interested too, as I distinctly remember Russell T Davies saying at one point, early into Season 27, that the Cybermen would never return since they weren't viewed as "scary" anymore. It will be interesting to see how they are portrayed in the new series. I hope Rose has some gold bling on her... ;)

I'm also looking forward to seeing the dynamics between Sarah Jane Smith, K9 and the Doctor. I think Tennant is going to have quite the acting job to pull off in that one to properly convey their previous rapport and history. I also find it ironic that when they first met, the Doctor looked older (and was older) than Sarah, but now, from an appearance perspective at least, it is reversed! ;)

Your wish is my command. Well, actually I have to thank Mr. Anderson for making it actually happen. ;) But yes, this thread has now been renamed to be the Official Doctor Who thread. I initiated this change, so if anyone has issue with this please take it up with me.

The way I see it though, now we can continue to discuss all things Doctor Who, and carry on into Season 28 without needing to start a new thread or continue posting in a thread whose name is outdated.

Sweet, well done! I'm really looking forward to the new season. I thought David Tennant was amazing in "The Christmas Invasion." I'm especially looking forward to the "School Reunion" episode, with Sarah Jane Smith. Sohould be great to see her in action wiht the new Doctor!

No complaints from me. I'd been thinking myself that the original title of the thread wasn't really appropriate any more – good to see we're all of a like mind!

Hurrah! The thread is now the official hub for Doctor Who fanaticism! And it's was all because of my idea! (ok maybe that's a little exaggerated lol)

Aye I'm dying to see how they will be presented. I found that the problem with the Cybermen which lead them to only ever taking a distant second place in top enemies of the Doctor, was that they were never that consistant and were not given as many good stories. I remember in Earthshock the leader processed a lot of aggrogance which goes against the idea of them being emotionless and stuff. I've got enough faith to believe they will get it right this time.

The bigger question is what operation system will they run on! If it's windows they won't last long, if it's OS X we're screwed!

Doctor Who in the US

Plenty of us can already see the Doctor. You just have to live close enough to Canada. Heck, even metro Seattle gets the CBC on cable.

SciFi will probably show more reruns though.

Your welcome guys, glad to perform a "regeneration" to the thread. ;)

Well, the good Doctor is definitely a Mac user, as this photo of the TARDIS console display proves...

Hmm, picture doesn't seem to be working for me - can you please try posting again? :)

Thanks, and I see the initial link works now too - for some reason it wasn't displaying in the thread before (perhaps a problem with imageshack hosting at the time?) Regardless, thanks, that's pretty sweet! :D

Nothing official from the BBC yet – but quite a few Who websites are giving April 15 as the likely UK start date for series twenty eight (or series two for the heathens). I'd expect the Canadian broadcaster won't be too far behind.

Just over two months to go then... :)

That sucks. Everyone knows that the new series should start in January ;) I seem to be mssing some other TV from the BBC also: Hustle and 55 degrees North are both AWOL. Current series of Sea of Souls and the first Series of Life On Mars are very good, though.

Damn, April 15th! That is almost as bad as waiting for Apple gear

As I say, the BBC hasn't announced anything official yet – but I would have thought if the new series was going to be aired earlier (ie, March) we'd have heard something by now.

Two months really isn't that long. We'll just have to keep telling ourselves that... :( ;)

Great, thanks for the head's up Jaffa Cake! Yeah, the CBC was pretty good last year, only 1.5 weeks behind the BBC. Not that it matters when one has Azureus... ;)

And yes, I agree, anyone who calls it Season 2 should be banished to Omega's black hole....

Well. Sci-Fi Channel announced during tonight's shows (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and of course Battlestar Galactica), that Dr. Who is coming to Sci-Fi starting next month! This is the series with Christopher Eccleston... I would assume it'll be on Friday nights, since the current shows are all coming up on their season finales within the next few weeks.

Sweet!
