Nice setup, exept that I see WINDOZE make the second 20" look nasty. It really be a sweet setup if both were mac.

"I personally refuse to use any MS product". At work I have to deal with it, but refuse to bring it home, and there always better solutions to do the same job.

I dunno, the "bliss" wallpaper looks really nice on the ACD :).

That is incredible. Very clean and neat. Makes my win/mac setup look like crasp :p.

Woh! I need to check that out. The reason I dont use the KVM for the KM elements is because I like to have access to both machines at the same time; that synergy thing looks like it would work very well for my needs.

Thanks again for the compliments!

Synergy is awesome! I put off installing it, but afterwards I was blown away how nice it worked. I currently only have one display (switch between VGA and DVI inputs), but it works awesome.

awsome setup! if i could justify spending $200 or more on looks of a PC then i would do that to my PC. but id rather spend money on my PB (like more ram) or on iPods!!

There are no solutions for AutoCAD!!! Or much engineering design software of a similar manner!!!

I was also recently introduced to NetObjects Fusion for web design, and again, it doesnt come for mac. (a little off topic, but if anyone knows of something similar for mac, let me know!)

Thanks again guys; yeah, there is no substitute for windows on certain occassions. Its a sad reality, and I cant wait until we get intel powermacs and I can keep windows locked nicely, in a mac window :p

- I bought the case on ebay; it was about 140 dollars shipped.

- I received some emails about how to hook up the front connects; unfortuneatly, I didnt really document this portion. I soldered right to the board, as some things shared common grounds and such and made for using the harness difficult. However, if you want, you can also solder/use the harness for the firewire and USB to get those running; I had no real need for doing it as the machine is for rather occassional and specific use.

I'm usually sceptical of PC-in-a-Mac case mods, but you pulled this one off very well. Like vnoiw, I'm curious how quiet it is compared to the G5...the dual core G5 I use at work is super quiet.

Of course, in the near future these sorts of mods might be totally unecessary. ;)

Its not super loud, but even with my attempts at using large, low speed fans throughout the setup, it still is louder than the G5 below it; its like 60-70% of the G5 at full speed. Realize the G5 case is VERY open without the mac air ducts and such, so there is really no sound deadening. The advantage to the G5 case though is that it is very heavy, so there is no possibility of the case resonating from the fans.

Great job! I know you say that it's not that loud, but it would be cool though to maybe add manual fan speed adjusters to quiet it down a bit.

nice one! :D

sure is a heap of room in the G5 case once you strip everything out...

and the last pic showing the setup with two G5 case's stacked. somehow I've never seen that done before. but I bet you'd get used to seeing that really quickly. :D

You know that the ultimate challenge is waiting out there for some wise-ass to take Mac hardware, put it in a Windows PC casing, and run Bootcamp and XP on it, and then take the PC guts, put them in the Mac casing, and run OSx86 and Tiger. You know it will happen.

And then, just over three minutes and fourteen seconds later, the world will end. And not with a bang, but a whimper.

 ;)

LOL!

Again, thanks for compliments; it is a rather cool "look" to have the dual G5 cases, but I look forward to the G5 replacements+bootcamp. I dont run XP all that much, so I can handle having one machine. My macbook runs XP so damn well (well, it only runs Solidworks, no internet, etc) I cant wait to see what the desktops will be like...not only does apple make the best computers in the world, they make the best XP computers in the world!

What processor do you have in there that requires those massive heat sinks or Im going to guess you didn't want the fan noise...?

Great Mod. Im trying to do one myself right now. So I have a short question which you may be able to answer: How did you hook up the power button? Do you have a close-up pictur of it?

Sorry, I dont offhand. I had to solder 2 small connections RIGHT off the button on the IC that is part of it. I attempted to use the Apple connector to accomplish it (much easier to work with) but I couldnt get it to work.
