I remember someone asked this, so just letting you guys know since I was at the Apple Store today and I saw the program being used.

Looks very simple. It shows the genius' how to plug in the iPod touch/iPhone and then once plugged in, there is a message prompting to ask the customer if it's okay to run diagnostics on your iPod/iPhone. If yes, then the scan is done.

If you restore it before going to the Apple Store I don't think so because I restored my iPhone before I got there, and he said "I don't see any information here because you just restored it."

I went in with a faulty iPhone, that had been jailbroken, I had dust under my screen. I used Sbsettings to hide Cydia etc. The genius did the test and he did a swap without saying anything. My heart was in my mouth whilst he was doing the checks however!

I did the exact same thing. Used SBSettings to hide the JB apps and took it in as-is. No problem at all.

Maybe with that program they might not be able to tell it was JB.. But I'm sure they do have a program that could tell if it was... Maybe some kind of programing in the phone that was it's jailbroke it puts a code in that can't be erased unless apple delete's it.. Anything is possible...

No. They don't. If you do a DFU restore, there is nothing that the Genius techs can do to determine that you've previously jailbroken the device. There is no secret software, no magic program.

It's possible that if they were to unmount the baseband and NAND from the board and undertake forensic analysis of the firmware/data that they might (*might*) be able to find something amiss... but even that's unlikely.

By the way, do you think Apple would deny a replacement if you had emoji on? Since you can easily get emoji without jailbreaking, but now it's been banned from the App Store. I wonder if they consider it hacking now.

I wouldn't think so. They allowed the App into the App Store, and you can't break the rules by buying/downloading from the App Store. That would e stupid .

Not entirely true. I highly doubt the iPhone/iPods do a full reformatting of their flash drive when restoring. If they don't, then there may be some jailbrake stuff left on the root partition. It would be invisible except to those who were looking for it though.

I just replaced my iPhone at an apple store a week ago and had emoji enabled, they couldn't care less.

I was at the genius bar 2 days ago and had a Tech run Behaviour Scan. I was really tempted to throw it on a flash drive whilst he went out back

He told me the app had just been updated and showed me the results which included:

Airtime over the last 2 weeks.
Total modem resets (they use this to indicate whether to replace it, mine had 10). My previous iPhone had 16 modem resets and he changed oit immediately.
They had a graph at the bottom counting the total amount of dropped calls by day. (One of my days had a result of 7/14 drops.
I think there was a total hours of operation count
A total hard reset count

But I don't recall the other details.

Anyone got this app? Can anyone get it?

And people have said that about flash programmer's for their cars too, and the dealer can tell if the computer was flashed or not.. We might never know if apple can tell.. IMO

Normal restores can and will leave some stuff behind. Restores done while in DFU mode, however, will not.

And if you wanna be extra sure, just erase the iPhone from the iPhone itself. This process zeros out all data (that's why it takes so long). Then restore.

Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings

This should securely erase all of your data. The secure erase was added in 2.0 because of complaints that restored iPhones could still contain user data.

As a reminder, emoji is a built-in feature of iPhone 2.2. There is no reason for a tech to care.

Built in feature of 2.2, but only enabled for Japanese carriers. There were a few Emoji enablers on the App Store that are getting pulled. These enablers edited a plist file found in the mobile user Library that enabled Emoji for everyone on any carrier. Get your facts straight. If Apple didn't have a problem with that, why would they pull them off the App Store?

I'm a bit confused as to how ECU reflashing relates to the iPhone...

It relates by using the same concept.. When you flash your ECU in your car it's replaceing the program with something else.. Just like on the iphone.. When you flash your car it puts a code in the computer that the dealership can only delete.. You can do whatever you want with disconnecting the battery or whatever, but the code is there until the dealer gets rid of it.. I'm just saying it could also be possible with the iphone also..

...or until you flash the ECU back to stock, which is analogous to what you're doing with a DFU restore to the stock iPhone firmware.
