Samsung likely shipped 9.5 million S7 phones in the first quarter, significantly more than the initial estimate for 7 million, Jay Yoo, industry analyst at Korea Investment & Securities, wrote in a report.

"It looks like the sell-in numbers have been pretty good and analysts are raising their sales forecasts for the S7 this year," noted HDC Asset Management fund manager Park Jung-hoon

OK everyone can have at each other their sales/profit arguments in this thread instead of the speed thread.

9.5 million seems to be a lot for v2 version of this phone maybe the hype was real..

Good for Samsung .... Ignoring the fruit company - Samsung needed flagship success after a few years of regression from their heady days of the S3 (still the biggest selling Galaxy device).

They have done a lot to appease their critics with the S7 & S7e. Are they perfect ? No, but nothing is. What they are however, are great mobile handsets that in an especially crowded Android market, stand out as premium quality devices.

What will be interesting is to see how Samsung does throughout its entire range (after all as big seller the S7/S7e range are, it will be the mid/low range that will make up the bulk of units sold). And how it can try and gain traction in that lower / mid range area especially in emerging markets (China / India) where there sales have also suffered in the last few years against the slew of cheap android devices.

Inevitably and sadly I suspect this thread will turn into another company1 v company2 thread ...

I am really surprised there is still that big of an audience for that expensive of a phone. I always thought that the lack of subsidies would hurt sales across the board. I guess the carriers did their part by offering payment plans.

It just shows how starved consumers were for this type of phone. Everyone sort of stalled a bit with innovation the past couple of years. Good for Samsung for hitting the mark first.

Samsung put back in what customers wanted: water/dustproof and slot for microSD card. If I could forget how terrible my experience with S3 was, I'd be very tempted. Sony's Xperia series – which I am slowly becoming less a fan of – is more of a mess than Apple's laptop line-up. In particular announcing the X series three months before it goes on sale was basically telling people "don't buy the Z5, wait for the update".

When X Performance is out and S7's price drops I'll have a hard time making my mind up.

Samsung has done what their customers asked for, even if they took some things away in the S6 to do so. That's a winning strategy, no matter how you look at it.

Yet Apple somehow refuses year after year to make the significant battery jump. How they keep ignoring the customers who want better battery life is beyond me. If there's a year when they should significantly improve battery life, 2016 is that year.

If companies can listen to the consumer and respond very quickly, you got a good chance at success. But the Android market is the most challenging. The introduction of the low to mid devices from China are eating up market share quickly. The big guys like Samsung, LG, HTC, and Sony need to really innovate to get people interested in their flagships. So kudos to Samsung for great start.

I just went to the Apple store at lunch to buy an SE 64GB for my wife now that she's decided what color after wanting all four and they're sold out.

Are they really filling a niche area? I guess we will see. I personally don't think it will compete with some of the lower priced android devices.

And I would disagree it is worth even $400 given that it is basically a 4 year old device.

Ok but everything else is just recycled 5S parts. And sure, best 4'' phone (what else is there?), if that is the niche they are filling. But if it is the price point, far better $400 phones out there.

Yes, the display, chassis, front camera and fingerprint sensor are taken directly from the 5S, but the RAM, storage, CPU/GPU, NFC, and rear camera are taken from the 6S. If they had upgraded the display, with a 1080p screen and 3d touch, it would have been a true flagship at 4".
But like I said, for what it is, it's a good phone and priced well below any other iPhone.

z5 compact is its only competitor i would say, i agree on price but this is apple, no far better $400 ios phone available, so they charge

if you are okay with the size and dont regard it as a negative, I'd still say most all? $400 phones dont beat it

Because consumers still buy their products. Look at the SE, how the hell they repackaged a phone from 3 years ago and convinced consumers to buy it is beyond me. But that is the magic that is Apple.

Man I generally agree with what you say but seriously??

I'm all FOSS all the time and I will have (for my wife) an iPhone SE because it's an attractive phone in nice colors packaged in a reasonable size. The SE really is good stuff if you want a small attractive powerful phone.

Well the battery is bigger in the 5x, probably more efficient due to the A9 in the iphone though. Haven't seen a comparison yet. The camera is better in the 5x as well, especially the front camera, by miles. Again, don't have both, so can't compare.
