There is a price to pay having bought it at Currys. Got to work to find out they'd given me a Wifi and not 3G iPad. Muppets. Me too - I should have opened the sealed box before I left the store to see what I had been given. I knew better than to trust them

Got one reserved to swap out at lunchtime. happy days at that point.

I changed my mind; I'll have my breakfast later. I'm already on the DLR! I'll be the guy with glasses and a bright yellow Caterpillar bag if you can spot me you can come and say hello. Maybe will have lunch/brekfast together.

I will have the blue panda bag, possible meet, are you quite slim? Age? I don't kiss on a first date mind!

The launch looks like it made the front page of the BBC News web site too (albeit in the 'other top stories' section at the top right of the page).

Not surprised that it seems pretty popular but I must admit I wasn't expecting so many at the stores considering the pre-order and the fact that advertising only really started this week (as far as I know anyway) and even then pretty low-key. It'll be VERY interesting to see if Jobs announces any updated sales figures at WWDC in a couple of weeks, if demand stays high internationally the same way it has in the States Apple could be looking at a major hit here.

Just got back from Regent St. I got there bout 5.20am and was number 71 in the que.

Stores opened at 8am on the dot and they must have had about 100 apple staff. Stephen Fry was also there and jumped the line to the front :D

I was in and out by 8.20am (I timed it). The lines were still going strong when i left. I got the 64 3g with the apple case and was they asked me what free micro sim i wanted. I choose o2 despite placing an order online last sat which still hasn't turned up.

I was asked by about 5 apple staff if i wanted them to activate the iPad in store and set up the 3g. I was tempted but wanted the pleasure of unboxing it myself.

Loads of press there, you couldn't hide your face. The guy with the white bag above was doing from the Guinness book of book records to see who could type the Alphabet with one hand on an iPad. Someone on the line beat the record which is now at 6 seconds.

Off to work now, might check Apple on my way back at 4pm to see if they have any more in stock just to see if it was worth me queuing up. (Not complaining was a nice experience)

Pics were taken off my iphone 3gs.

p.s no freebies from Apple except a bottle of water, but there were other companies that were at the launch giving out free stuff like books and discounts on apps

I was almost tempted to go to an Apple store for the launch.

I remember the Apple store launch in Birmingham - was great fun hanging out with fellow Apple geeks in the queue.

Hope people had fun today!

That was fun! Got there just before 6, was number 140 or something... people chanting your name as you walked in, these two from BBC wanting to recruit people for a reality freakshow "about people with weird habits. More an homage than a mockery"... yeah... Starbucks, Pret a Manger, Wired, Guinness Book etc had little giveouts as well as the aforementioned guy in cow outfit giving out cereal bars.

Now at work pretending to be productive while the 32 gig 3G is syncing my photos... Got the case (which will do until the dodocase gets here) and the camera connection kit.

This is going to be a long day at work.

Looks crazy there! Did anyone ask the staff why stocks were like of accessories? I want to get a case but wonder whether there will be any left later!

They said they had loads of iPads, probably enough to not run out today, so I'd imagine it's the same for the accessories.

You don't even have to open up the box to check it, it should say what model is on the back next to the barcode.

Currys were giving them out in sealed brown cardboard boxes. They only indicator on it is a part number... no reference to the actual model (or at least that I could decode!).

Ah that explains it. Good luck getting yours swapped later!

It was a lovely experience this morning. The staff gave out coffee and water and the folks in the crowd were so friendly.

Arrived at 7:30. 400 in line according to a counter. Entered store at 9:35.

Once you're in, they take you straight to the register.

They have TONS of stock in all six flavors. If you want one today, you'll get one today for sure, and probably beyond.

:D so this mean that i can get a planeticket to London asap, and get an ipad? like around next week or so?:p

just bought one as a present from regent st. There was still a bit of a queue so I walked up and asked if it was the same queue for wifi and 3g. Turns out the queue was only for 3g. Pretty much walked in got a Wifi one straight away.
