In today's UK Apple Watch debut in Style, the watch that is being worn by the model is listed as being $349.

"Apple Watch Sport with 38mm Space Grey Aluminium case and black band, $349"

It's pretty much what we expect. But interestingly, doesn't this confirm that the Space Grey will be the same as the Raw Aluminium model?

Of course, this may well not be the case with the Space Black on the SS version.

I wonder how much the 42mm will be then, maybe an extra $50?

I think they'll be the same as it doesn't make sense to punish someone for having slightly larger wrists, with no meaningful benefit of the bigger product.

Haha no, thats just stupid.
The larger one is not larger for people "with larger wrists". It's larger because some people would not like à small watch.

Just the same with analog watches. Some people like larger watches.

Yeah that sounds richt. 349,- and 399,-

Good news. I can now get all black for the cheapest. Excited!

Gruber was speculating that the space gray might be more expensive than then silver version so if this pricing is accurate that's good news.

I saw photos of a couple watches announced at MWC and for me the Watch display blows them away in terms of vividness and crispness. On these other watches the text looked a bit pixelated and the colors were a bit washed out. I'll be curious to know what kind of battery life they get. Oh and the sensor on the back looks nothing like Watch's sensor so I'm really hoping that means Watch sensors will be really accurate.

But Apple has said, we've made a smaller watch. Rather than, we've made a larger watch.

So it seems that the smaller one is a downgrade, not the larger one an upgrade.

Don't get this line of thinking at all. There's no 'punishing' anybody, there's a choice of watch sizes.

There's many apple products that come in 2 sizes; the larger always costs more as it costs more to make.

Not surprising because even the silver aluminum is also anodized just like Space Gray. It's just a lighter anodization coating color. Raw aluminum would oxidize when exposed to air anyway. That's why Space Gray, Silver and Gold iPhones are the same price.

No, he was talking about Space Black stainless steel, not Space Gray aluminum on the Watch Sport model. Two completely different finishes.

Is this a caption? I wouldn't bet on it being accurate. I am not saying it is inaccurate, but I don't think Apple is about to slip in pricing info to a magazine article. Most likely, it was the editor putting a known price. Having said that, I don't believe Apple will charge a different price for space gray. I just don't think this is confirmation of it.

Hmm...I thought he mentioned both. But maybe I misread/heard.

Yeah so? That does not make the larger One the same price.
If it's à downgrade then it even makes more sense that the 42mm Will be 399,- and de "downgrade" model 349

Weird, this is straight from Grubers article...
"Note that the silver Apple Watch Sport only has four band color choices: white, blue, green, and pink. The space gray Sport edition has only one band: black. I think Apple might charge more for both the space gray Sport model and the space black stainless steel model."

I pretty much disagree with everything Gruber says about the pricing of this watch. But Im excited for the 9th so we can stop speculating!;)

Hmm.. The article in the UK today says there are 10 versions of the sport.

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking of a different section where he was making a big point about the Link Bracelet being the most expensive strap and suggested that the Space Black version will be even more expensive.

So I think we know by now Gruber isn't as smart as we thought. Apple doesn't charge different prices for the Space Gray, Silver and Gold iPhones so that makes no sense. Gruber also suggested that the Milanese loop will be cheaper than the leather bands. How many here think this makes even an ounce of sense?

Eh, he's got some insiders knowhow sometimes but also talks off his butt a lot. In this article I think he mentions how he is speculating just as much as everyone else, though... wild speculation.

But I agree with him on the Milanese. :p

Exactly. I can't imagine any of the leather straps (not including :apple:Watch Edition) being more expensive than the steel bands. I hope that Gruber likes the taste of crow! :p

He's not backing down on his price estimates though. So either Apple is going to shock the hell out of everyone or Gruber or right.

Yeah this what I have been saying since the article came out. I think the stainless bands will cost an exuberant amount, some totaling almost as much as the Sport Edition. The leather bands, even the largest 42mm one, shouldn't be more then $80 tops. It looks to be similar leather to the iPad Smart Case (maybe this is treated though, IDK) which is $80 and contains a hell of a lot more leather then a Watch band.

The only way Gruber might possibly be correct about the leather bands being more expensive than the Milanese Loop is if he's acquired some inside information regarding some changes in Apple's plan. If Apple has ditched its plan to produce the Milanese Loop on "specialized Italian machines" and switching to off-the-rack material for this strap, it might explain it being cheaper than the leather bands which are seemingly handcrafted from materials imported from France (the Modern Buckle), Italy (the Leather Loop) and the Netherlands (Dutch leather used in the Classic Buckle). There are cheap versions of the Milanese loop available so who knows?

I'm going to guess this is not the case (nothing has changed on Apple's website) and Apple will use the bands as differentiation. Most of these round Android smartwatches look like someone trying to copy a high end watch but being given a tiny budget to do so. Apple will want someone to hold one of their bands and think 'this blows away the competiton' in terms of premium quality.

I agree with you. Unless it's some inside information from Apple that he's not letting us in, Gruber is most certainly pulling things out of his rear regarding the Milanese Loop being cheaper than the leather bands and Apple's plan to charge a premium for the Space Gray sport model.

I think you are putting way to much stock into this. A magazine posted the only known price of a line of watches that apple is getting ready to come out with nothing more, nothing less. This is not verification that space gray is $349.
