In terms of wide OS support, I detailed in this thread a few years ago my attempts to install Tiger on my 2008 iMac, which was mostly successful, it works 100% other than the sound. You can use a USB DAC and some speakers/headphones to restore sound though. The 2008 iMac works up to Catalina (might need Wi-Fi card replacement) and we'll see on Big Sur.not sure where this should go, so figured id plonk it here, but thanks to @r6mile I recently got my hands on an ATI Radeon 2600 XT from a MacPro3,1 I have wondered for a long time if they would work in Tiger/if I could make it work, and the answer is yes I can (I had been curious on this front since the iMac7,1 shipped with tiger and used ATI Graphics cards of the same generation, and the ATI Radeon 2600 XT's device ID was in those tiger drivers, so was quite curious to see what it would do!)

started with a 10.4.10 iMac7,1 install DVD, installed that to an SSD via a VM, slotted it into my MP1,1 and it booted right up!, then installed the 10.4.11 (non Combo) update and it kept working
I will test in the coming days if it will work without the 10.4.10 iMac7,1 install DVD (but it is downloadable on the internet, its where I got my images from!)
with this working you could on say a MacPro3,1 or Xserve2,1 multiboot every intel version of OS X with graphics support on one mac! (although im not sure what the status on big sur is... , but you could do 10.4.11-10.15.6 for sure)
(sadly I dont have a MP3,1/XS2,1 so someone else can do that, can also be done a MBP4,1 or iMac7,1/8,1)

All that matters is that it can be made to work - somehow (just pulling your leg, I get your point! )That card is very slow even on High Sierra on my 3,1, I dare to think how it runs on the latter two...
Tiger 10.4.0 is too old for the Quad. Use a 10.4.6 retail disc. When I try to boot from a Tiger 10.4 DVD, I get kernel panic?
Struggling to download that link.Tiger 10.4.0 is too old for the Quad. Use a 10.4.6 retail disc.
EDIT: You can download a known-good 10.4.6 image from

Your DVD is probably version 10.4.0. The Quad requires at least 10.4.2 which is why it panics. The 10.4.6 version I linked to is new enough to work fine on the Quad.I have a DVD version but get kernel panic when the DVD boots up?
Why didn't I see that on the garden's page? Anyway, many thanks for pointing at the right link.Download #30.
I think we need to start a Leopard thread. I still have my G5. (and g4 and a bunch of other stuff)
PortGroup legacysupport 1.0
to the lmdb Portfile to make that build, and run sudo port select python python27
to build llvm-3.4. Extremely easy fixes, but you still have to know what to do, and both were in the MacPorts Trac.Yes I've got GCC 7 build on my iMac G5, took 2 and 1/2 days, but it did it...The fact that MacPorts works on Tiger is freaking impressive. From what I can tell, their strategy for most ports on Tiger is to:
Incredible.
- Use Tiger's ancient GCC 4.0.1 to compile a partial copy of GCC 4.2.
- Use that partial copy of GCC 4.2 to compile a full copy of GCC 4.2.
- Use that full copy of GCC 4.2 to compile GCC 7.
- Use GCC 7 to compile whatever you're actually trying to install.
Runs fine with 4 gigs here (2007 MBP) and I have also seen it on a friend's MP 1,1 with (iirc) 14 gigs.Does Intel Tiger have a software-side memory limit?
