Hi everyone,

I've had all three iPhones, loved them all, recommended them to friends and family (converted my whole family to AT&T). There is very little I dislike about the iPhone, and for most issues I've solved with jailbreaking my 3G S (tethering, customization, quick texting, intelliscreen, backgrounding/app switcher, etc); but alas I just feel complacent about the iPhone.

I love the iPhone OS (done some light development as well), I just feel like I need some change with my phone. The iPhone does nearly everything I want, I just am quite intrigued with other phones. I'm not sure if this is because the iPhone is just dated in terms of OS/hardware/aesthetics, or what, but it is quite annoying.

I don't hate AT&T, my coverage isn't that bad. Hell, I'm on WiFi for 6 hours a day anyways. Just every time a new phone pops up (Nexus One, Palm Pre Plus, HTC Hero, etc) it makes me want a new phone; yet I've invested so much into my iPhone with apps and what not it makes me very hesitant to switch. Also if I were to switch, I can almost guarantee that I'd miss my iPhone before long.

But does anyone else feel this way? Should I just pick up a used BB Bold (always liked this one for some reason) for a few weeks to quench this incessant longing for change?

Every now and then I get the itch to switch to a BB as I would like to have BBM, but then I think about how seamless everything works on the iPhone, and how I can back everything up with MobileMe, and how it syncs flawlessly with all my contacts in the address book. I also think about browsing the web on those smaller screens and shutter a bit as well. As they say the grass is always greener...
 
I felt the same way after having the first two iphones so after a few months with the 3g I decided to switch over and get my wife and I BB storms (worst phone ive ever had). It lasted 12 hours and after I sold my fairly new 3g to a buddy I was SOL and was forced to pay the early upgrade price which was 499 at the time for a 16g 3g. Oh and I forgot to mention the pain of porting the same two numbers in a 24 hour period. Now with that said it was the first BB storm and yes the DROID and Pre do interest me but no other phone comes close to the UI of the iphone. The apps (most of which are crap) the browsing and so many other things keep me loyal now. I own a 32g 3gS and couldn't be happier. I think the iphone will see a major upgrade in 2010 and I will be shelling out however much it takes to get it. If you do decide to swap hold onto that iphone because you have 30 days to try it and im almost certain you'd come back quickly.
 
I have both. The iPhone suits me and so does the BB. I guess one is for work the other is for everything else. You know, more people are interested in my iPhone than my BB...I guess for some there is still an attraction. Is the grass is always greener?

Are you the same with cars? Everything loses its luster over time. The wiser are more patient and end up saving a lot more money.
 
@Opie: I agree with the major iPhone revision this year (hopefully software, hardware, and design), but June can't come soon enough..

@Scottness: I'm kinda that way in nearly every material aspect; I have had 9 computers (6 Macs, 3 PCs) in the last 1.5 years. Three cars in that time period as well.

Hopefully as a dev we'll see a 4.0 beta in the next two-three months and that'll provide some fourth iPhone pre-excitement.
 
yes, im ANXIOUSLY awaiting 4.0, i have been tempted more than a few times to switch or at least try a pre/pixi. i have a feeling though, as some people have said already, that apple will come out swinging and i'll be placated for some time to come.
 
Yes, with EVERY phone I've owned, and with EVERY carrier I have had. However, I am wise enough to know the grass is not always greener on the other side.
 
I can honestly say that I have not had any feelings about getting a different phone since I know nothing will be able to compare (in my opinion at least) to the ease of use and the many, many App options that the iPhone gives me. I also have full 3G coverage in my city and even on the road the Edge is never that horrible. I can count on one hand the number of dropped calls I had outside of major disasters (I am in Houston and the time around Hurricane Ike was iffy).

I also drive a 1998 car and never buy new. Our 'family' car was a year old and bought used, so I am not one who necessarily is jonesing for the latest and greatest.

But your feeling is exactly what retailers want...someone who is always looking for the latest and greatest. :D
 
I did it yesterday when my two Nexus Ones arrived. I was getting a bit tired of Apple's control (I was JB'd) and AT&T sucked hard for me.

I'm no longer on a contract and I have great service with T-Mobile. I couldn't be any happier right now.
 
IF there was any reason or phone out there that looked like it could possible make me look their way.. the Nexus One looks like a pretty slick phone. The iPhone however has never let me down via a dropped call, txt or VM issue and I love the interface and having tested out a few buddies "other" touchscreen phones, it's hands down the best UI I've used.

I love "new" tech, new gadgets and always following what's next, but so far nothing (aside form the Nexus One) has looked like a good reason to consider moving. While people may enjoy T mobile in their area it's complete trash for coverage here in KC/midwest with Sprint in a tight race for worst coverage here. Sounds like Nexus One will land with Verizon this spring so if there ever was a time to check it out, it could be then if AT&T fails to move towards 4g before Verizon does.
 
^Verizon already has LTE trials out in a few cities. 30 cities will be lit up by the end of the year/early next year.

AT&T hasn't even finished upgrading to 7.2. They are really behind the 8-ball here in terms of getting to LTE.
 
My Nexus one is on the FED EX truck now, however i will buy the new iPhone when it is released:) I had all three iphones too.WOW just arrived beautiful screen!
 
Being a gadget geek, I always look at the competition, and always with an open mind. When I find a phone I like better, I give it props. That being said, I have yet to try a phone OR gadget I like better than the iPhone. Does it have things I hate, yes: I hate the battery (not being able to swap it out), I hate that we have to sync the phone to get software updates (Palm and Windows, you can get software updates ON the phone), and the backround not being able to use pics, or run programs in the backround like windows and android. That being said, the iPhone does so many things I love, too many to number, I can't imagine using another phone. I absolutely HATED the Droid (I thought the Eris was 1000% better), loved the HTC Hero (great phone), but still like the iPhone better.

Saturday night, I was playing (or should I say, getting killed by) my ex-gf in Eliminate (I'm in NYC she's in LA), while talking on the same phone with my wireless bluetooth stereo headset. What other phone can you play a great online game like Eliminate, and still talk on the same phone at the same time. Amazing ! And that's just ONE example of the greatness of the iPhone.
 
My 3GS Jailbroken basically has every function and OS modification other
smartphones have. And it's so freaking stable\reliable, and fast.

It's going to take more than specs on paper to interest me, which most of the time doesn't mean much anyways. It's real life performance that matters. I also have no problem with AT&T service.
 
I too had the itch so I scratched it with the Droid soon after its release. After using the latest android (at the time) for about 14 days, I quickly gave it up and went back to my jailbroken 3GS. Maybe the Droid has gotten better since the initial problems, but that experience kinda turned me off of android platform. Only thing I liked about the droid was free google navigation and the screen. Screen was definitely gorgeous and almost made me want to keep the device because of that fact alone, but everything else "sucked" compared to my jailbroken 3GS. If there was no jailbreaking for iPhone, I'd probably would've chosen the android platform.

Nexus One seems intriguing with new high resolution AMOLED screen, but still the same android platform with hard-to-find/non-existent apps and fragmentation of different manufacturers and app compatibility. I guess now the only thing I would jump ship for is the iPhone 4G :)

the benefit of t-mobile is that you can take advantage of their even more+ plans that offer you a discounted rate if you bring your own phone because you dont have to pay off a subsidy.
 
I jumped ship about a month ago and got a BlackBerry Bold 9700. I, like yourself, was kinda bored with my iPhone and every other new phone looked intriguing. In addition, I, like you, loved my iPhone and all of it's features and pretty much just wanted something different.

A month later, I want my iPhone back. I want it back BAD. However, I'm stuck for 6 months because if I sell my Bold, Wirefly will charge me $300 for an Equipment discount fee.

Don't get rid of your iPhone. It's really not worth it.
