Question.
So I'm not on an iPhone upgrade plan as of right now & have an upgrade available for my line.
I plan on preordering the iPhone X and getting on one of the iPhone upgrade plans since I buy a new iPhone every year or two anyways.
It will be my first time preordering an iPhone & also my first time getting on an iPhone upgrade plan.

Would it be more beneficial to preorder through Apple or Verizon? I was thinking Apple's plan since it included AppleCare+ in the plan & I'm definitely planning on getting it. But I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on any deals/savings with Verizon if I bought through Apple directly?

since you are ordering the X, and that is still a month's away, verizon will prob announce some promos when the time is closer. as of right now, the only promo from verizon is in regards the 8 line.

I think he means you can't pay it off early AND keep the 650 promo which is prorated over 24 months. If you pay off early(which you can always do), you short yourself a portion of the 650 credit which in this case if it's 12 months, then you lose half the promo credit because you pay it off early.
Gotcha

I have an iPhone 6, and when I bought this, Verizon still had subsidized pricing. I've long since past the 2-year waiting period and am eligible for upgrade. Problem is, I know they moved away from the subsidized model and really push the pay-per-month option. When I logon, I can see a trade-in offer valued up to $150 for my iPhone 6. How does that work with the upgrade plan? Also, is it better to go with Verizon or Apple? I understand Apple's plan is basically creating a loan. Is Verizon's plan the same? It seems the only benefit of Verizon's method is that it adds it to your bill, thus I can pay by debit (where I understand Apple's plan requires payment monthly via credit card). Any clarification would be appreciated!

When you buy it from VZ, you have two choices. Either pay for it outright (full MSRP price) or sign up for an installment plan which is essentially a 0% APR loan for 24 months. They divide the cost of the phone (minus the sales tax and one time upgrade fee) into 24 equal payments. When you finish paying off the 24 payments, you own the phone--same way you owned the phone at the conclusion of your two year contract. If you choose to leave VZ before the end of your 24 month term, you have to pay for the entire device to keep it, or return it. They allow upgrades when you have paid for 50% of the device, but you have to turn it in. They then cancel the rest of that phone's installment plan and set up a new one.

To that end, Apple has similar options. You can buy the phone outright, or sign up for their Upgrade plan (that comes with AppleCare+, or just the device payments /24). The real difference here is that when you use Apple for financing, its a separate account/place to pay then when you buy from Verizon. The big difference is that your phone becomes totally uncoupled from the carrier, so you can change carriers etc really easily because you are just paying VZ for the service and don't owe them anything for a device. The old subsidized contracts were the things that generated agreements with ETFs etc.

Yeah, I am not getting anywhere near the same vibe as the last few launches. If Apple wasn't going to be releasing the X in November, or the launch dates were at the same time, then I bet this forum would be twice as long by now.

Its fine with me because I am looking forward to my 8+.

Thanks! How does trade-in value work?

I agree. When I ordered the 6 plus I was nervous and still got it on launch today after calling into Verizon. Tonight I’ll just use the app and be done

Anyone here who tried using a local UsPs as a shipping address and didnt have problems picking it up? Im on a college apartment and apparently packages are only given to tenants on a business day. And they wait another business day to process the package which i dont even understand why they dont give it to tenants the day of delivery. I couldn't wait for monday. I want my phone on the 22nd . Anyone?

Use hold at UPS.

First time iphone user with my 6s. Definitely ordering the 8 tonight. Already ordered two charging pads and a case for a total of $35. Now that that's said and done here's my concern...

I'm with the upgrade program thru verizon it says eligible for upgrade so I plan to pre order at 3 am with them. Out of curiosity I was in the apple store app went thru the process of choosing carrier etc. and the apple store app said I wasn't enrolled. Is this because they are two separate companies and I have the upgrade program specifically with Verizon?
Going with the 8 256GB Space Gray.. My 6s says space gray on the vzw app but it definitely looks silver.

Thanks! How does trade-in value work?

So how it works is first the phone needs to be paid off & not on contract & then when you per-order you choose the trade in option or if you call tell them on the phone. And when the new phone comes you can take the phone your trading in to a local Corporate Verizon Store and they will activate your new phone and process your old phone and take care of the trade in part.

Not sure what that means. I’m ready to upgrade with Verizon (line paid off) and I can get all the way to “continue” to place the order. Doesn’t say anything about being enrolled

I think it's because Apple doesn't know you are on an upgrade program with Verizon since they are two different companies (and vice versa).

Ya what that means is that you can upgrade and that your account is ready for upgrade.

My currently phone requires $100 more payment to be eligiable for upgrade (50%). So if I pay $100 and preorder the new iPhone but ship in a couple of months later. How does the Verizon payment plan work in this situation? Does Verizon just stop charge me monthly payment for 2 months until I get my new phone and return back current phone?
How does it work? Thanks
