Yeah... but:
-no proof
-no real photos- stock images only
-zero feedback

none of that lends any weight to this.

You know....there's always the possibility that some of the following may exist and may be floating around:
*early demo models
*demo models sent to exclusive parties for reporting and evaluation
*initial manufacturing pipeline test run models
*models used within apple to test the product
*etc models

The fact that those models could exist means
the possibility that some of those models were 'misplaced' (lost), or 'unfortunately left unmonitored' (stolen).

Which would then mean there is a possibility someone, who is not intentionally supposed to posses said models, may actually have in their possession one or more legitimate iPhones.

Which would then mean such person(s) may have decided to sell them on eBay

Yes I agree to what most here suggest [ SCAM ]. However, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there is someone somewhere right now that has $1125 less cash in his pocket but 1 iPhone in the same pocket to fill it's place.

That's all well and good in theory, but I would think if someone had a stolen a prototype iPhone, they'd get a LOT more from Nokia, Motorola, Palm, Microsoft etc. than $1125 on ebay. those extra few months of reverse engineering time would be priceless to the iPhone's competitors who are desperately trying to close the gap.

More constructively, did anyone else report it?

Yeah. This was posted someplace, I think either TUAW or Engadget. A few people from there said they reported it as well. I don't think Ebay would have caught it in time though. At least the seller is in the US and uses Paypal. This should be a pretty easy thing for the Buyer to get their money back with using the buyer protection.

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh :p

This really just goes to show, you could sell anything on eBay. They moderate absolutely crap, or their moderators are absolutely crap.

ROTFLMAO!!

I'm not sure whats more the scam here, the auction listing or the 'buyer protection'.

The best thing to do with PayPal is fund the entire transaction with a credit card. That means *EMPTY* your PayPal balance if you have anything first, and then make your eBay purchase, use the power of your credit card chargeback in your favor. PayPal will not go to bat for you. Your credit card company will. But the transaction needs to be for the exact amount and the reference # needs to be consistant. That means don't fund your PayPal acct with the exact amount and then use that, that way you don't have to move your balance out, and if you have a balance, when you try to fund any new purchases your balance will be applied first. Hence, your credit card hit will only be the difference. The documentation (eBay listing) won't jive, the credit card company won't mess with you.

..just hope the 'winner' pays first before they read this advice. :D

ROTFLMAO! :D

I reported this twit.

Of course, there should be a penalty for being stupid enough to bid on it.

@spork183:
- I hope that was awesome sarcasm. Bad english and all, pretty funny stuff.

I think someone mentioned somewhere that there were only two completed iPhones and they were both at Macworld. I seriously doubt Apple would be stupid enough to give a prototype to anyone. Even Cingular.

I did it a few hours ago too :)
