I too am experiencing WiFi connectivity issues with my iPad.

I have an Airport Extreme and my Macbook Pro and iPhone have no issues maintaining connectivity. I am currently experimenting with different channel selections to see which are strongest in my area. I suggest that all who are having this kind of problem get a WiFi Scanning application (many are freeware) and pick a channel that is not being used by your neighbors.

I also have to say that it was disconcerting to see how the OP was attacked for merely reporting an issue with his device. This is not religion - it's a consumer electronics device! Lighten up.:)

Agree, I'm having the same network problems. Works fine on all my other devices.

It seems the issue may be the fact that my wifi at home is password protected. At Starbucks right now and have not had one problem being online, but this network isn't pass protected.

I'd speculate that when you lose the connection briefly and it reconnects, it doesn't send the password, so in effect, you stay disconnected until you act to fix it. At Starbucks, you might lose connection briefly, but since there's no password, it picks right back up in seconds.

I've seen problems like this that were due to the router - but they affected all devices simultaneously - my MacBook and my dad's Gateway laptop, for instance.

In your case, it sounds like an issue with the iPad itself. I'd call Apple and perhaps return it. If you want an iPad assuming this issue is fixed, a return and exchange is probably the way to go. If you are looking for a good reason to get your money back and cash out of the iPad craze, you've got one.

Personally ... I think it's a wiser long-term choice to wait for the 3g version anyway.

Interesting. Thanks for the additional data point.

I have found that switching my Airport Extreme router to channel 2 results in stronger and more stable iPad reception. I am no longer seeing as much signal wavering and no drops. Time will tell if this continues...

I have seen the MacBook AIR lockup a LinkSys / CISCO WAP. The WAP works fine until the MacBook AIR attaches to it, then you need to power cycle it to get it working again.

I think that you may need to do a firmware update on WAP or Router.

Yea, I will see if I can modify the settings on my wifi. Don't really need a 3G version. By the time it comes out, Sprint will have 4g up and running here

I had the same problem. The easiest fix is to cut off the device and the router. Then restart. Then set up the connection again.

Oh surprise surprise, you finally figured out it's YOU and your ROUTER.

So, now that you discovered it's user error, and you don't even know what an SSID was until someone told you... are you still going to return it?

Perhaps you could, if it's not too much rocket science for you, fix your network correctly?

/some people!

It is unfair to blame him. Really, you can't be sure where the problem is without analyzing his network and it's environment. A LOT of things can go wrong in a network, especially a wireless one.

OP, it could be a faulty iPad. (I know it isn't an across-the-board problem because my iPad is working great.)
I'd try adjusting the router settings before taking the iPad back. Trying a different channel is an easy thing you can try. It will help if you are getting interference. Security settings are another place where there seem to be a lot of problems.

I'd write down (or take screen shots of) all of your current settings before you get started -- you don't want to change something, break your network, and not know how to at least put it back the way it was to start with.

This is moot unless/until there's a Sprint iPad. Also fyi Sprint is rushing to the 4g market with an older technology. The others will take a bit longer but with a much faster and newer technology.

glol, have you watched "the thick of it"? i think you would like it

Lay off the guy!

Come on he was asking if this was an issue and if so should he return the unit.

Hmmm. Well my iPad is connected to my sprint hotspot running on sprints 3G network right now. When i go into an area with 4g and the hotspot starts running on it, won't my iPad be running at 4g speeds? I would think so

No connectivity issues here with a Buffalo wifi router (several rooms/walls/appliances away). No loss of SSID / password.

No wifi issues here, but I have 13 days left to return it if my girlfriend keeps bi***ing me out for having a new "distraction".

Returning it would just shut her the hell up, so we'll see...

Edit: she's technically my fiance, but she's my girlfriend when we're arguing, lol :)

If it's picking up the connection via wifi or bluetooth, I guess so. But you'd need some other device to catch and locally broadcast the signal so your iPad can pick it up ... guess you have that.

Chill Pill

Paid $500 for this thing and cant even use it more than 5 minutes before it logs me off my network or asks for the password again. Most the time I have to try multiple times before I can get back on. Meanwhile, my Macbook runs just fine on the same wifi network. Taking it back first thing in the morning, ridiculous.

Sorry about your experience. Mine works flawlessly. Manufacturer defects, although frustrating, do and can occur in any brand. Your choices are to exchange it, return it or keep it ;) Don't mean to sound sarcastic but when I have a device that doesn't work my first action is to contact the manufacturer for a solution.

Since the vast majority of us are not having such issues, it's very likely that it's a router issue. What I would suggest is that you visit a friend that has wifi or a hotspot somewhere and see if you have the same issues. I think that you will find that you don't. If you do then you can probably conclude that you have a defective unit. If not then with a little help from Apple support you may be able to figure out what needs to be tweaked in your router settings to resolve the problem. You may help discover why some are having issues and help not just yourself but them as well. I think that this is way to valuable of a product to give up on so easily. I'm sure that you can get this resolved with a bit of patience.
