This actually has me more stressed out than Diablo. Screw this crap let's go bowling.

You are still in the 15 days return timeframe...

I don't even have the machine in my hands (won't arrive until June 22). Technically speaking, the clock should start ticking then, no?

Call me an idiot - at the risk of ending up in Wasteland :) - but I've decided to stick with it. My 1,1, as much as I love it, does show its age when I run LR and PS. If I can shave off a couple of seconds from each render, I'll be a happy customer. If not, I just might return it.

It was pretty obvious that to call the minor CPU upgrade to the mac pro new was a mistake.

My guess is that they actually had something way more substantial but canned it at the last minute.

Ya, lets can the great idea, and go with the not so great idea. That's a good idea.

The real Apple died with Steve.

Edit: lol at the down arrows.

I was just coming here to post this same thing I noticed. When they announced these in 2010 wasnt there a few month lag time to when they announced them and they shipped? I don't see the harm in doing that for just the mac pro. Its not really a consumer device and itll will make us happy that atleast we know something is coming.

Most certainly a good thing. They listen to their customers which is more than you can say for other companies.

Well they're not in a good position. If they hurry up and churn out a real new Mac Pro now in response to our clamor...it's going to tick off whoever bought them since Monday. And if it's hurriedly put together and fails, it will tick off the newer buyers.

I still want a new Mac Pro. I wonder how this will play out.

Wow. I haven't seen a retreat like that since the Germans in the Battle of Stalingrad. If you think that there's been a lot of unhappy people on forums, just imagine what's been happening at WWDC.

I get so sick of reading this type of tripe.

No one here is calling you an idiot...but you wrote that you feel pissed...

The bottom line is, as always:

You need a new computer now? keep it.
You can afford the risk/cost of waiting for a real update that could potentially never come? Return it

I don't know how they can please everyone at this point. They're in a sticky situation. I suppose all they can do now is piss off the least amount of people.

Which is probably why people clicked on the down arrow. They don't like that it's true.

Incredible, huh? One of the richest men in the universe and even he couldn't cheat death.

Now the company is run by these guys...

No one cheats death. We were lucky he beat the cancer back for as long as he did. You have to admire his courage and strength for sticking with Apple through all of it, that is dedication at its finest.

He hand picked and thoroughly vetted everyone at the higher levels. Apple is in good hands.

I think the problem is , Apple expect its user base to be so slavish over any scraps it throws down, that they thought they could get away with the "New tag" and everyone would be "O thank You apple" Were not worthy Were not Worthy....

They misjudged it big time

in other words apple scored a big own goal.

Nope.

It's because they could get sued. It was not new. You could already configure the 2010 Mac Pro with that CPU.

Let's hope you're right and that they don't make it look like Steve picked the wrong guys. I absolutely loved Steve and how he handled Apple since he got back on board and wish he'd lived forever.

I smiled a bit when I read this. Thank you. :) This post made my day. I know we don't have a New Mac Pro like we wanted, but this is a slight victory. This shows they know calling it new was the wrong thing to do. Now all we need is an apology from them stating "we are sorry we thought you were starved and gullible enough to by that "new" crap."(like that will ever happen) LOL!

Mac Pro "Retro Model"

While I like to believe that there are forces of good up in Cupertino, I had a moment of thought.

Imagine if they "reintroduced" the 2010 MBP with a 10% faster CPU, twice the RAM, but still everything else the same.

I would look at it as a serious sign that they didn't give one flat damn for the MBP.

Obviously, MP owners CAN upgrade the CPU and GPU while MBP folks can't but still I just can't imagine how they would even phrase it.

"Hey, remember that WONDERFUL 2010 MacBook Pro that impressed you so much? Well we've decided to reintroduce it !!! Now it's the 2012 MacBook Pro !!! Please get in an orderly line with Credit Cards ready"

At the very least since they know that the 5770 is now in "joke" land, perhaps they could offer a "Delete" option where you could shave $250 off if you let them keep that fine piece of hardware?

I think it is still to early to say something like this... But I do agree... things are changing.
All the focus on the Retina... The term itself is arbitrary, what is retina and what is not... It is open for discussion...
I do think that the screen is more than good, although I haven't seen it yet, but I have seen the new iPad, and the screen is better than the iPad 2 but it is not revolutionary, just resolutionary...
The iPad itself was revolutionary...
I fear that Apple might be returning to "Design by committee" policies which were their downfall sometime ago...
Hope I'm wrong...

BTW This removal of the new sticker from the Mac Pro in just one day...
I mean, calling it NEW in the first place...
Amateur hour... I'm sad to say...

I'm glad they removed it. It's the right thing to do.

Oh and the Mac Rumors Buying guide should be changed back to "Do not buy" and the counter set back to the 600+ days.

Can't you moderator guys speak to the admins?

Apple already has their product roadmap laid out for at least two to three years, perhaps longer. Steve definitely knew about the future of the Mac Pro, and hell he probably steered it in that direction.
