Thinking of selling my Mac Mini and buying a Macbook. I fear the Moo! Has this been addressed officially yet? Have later manufactured units been any better?

All comments are welcome.

Thanks.

I would seriously wait till WWDC, there are just too many bugs right now.

Buying a Mac shouldn't feel like playing Russian roulette, sadly it is

I disagree, there are plenty out there who are happy with their purchase with no defects, such as myself.

I don't have anything wrong with my MacBook, it does get hot but that's expected, and I've only heard it Moo a couple times when there was no other sound around. Other than that this is the perfect machine.

When I saw the thread title I thought you were mocking all of the people complaining about their MacBooks :D

Many people see it as a non-issue. If you're really worried, go to the store and insist on trying the one you want to buy in the store before leaving. If you're not happy with it, ask for a different one.

I am pretty picky. I would notice it and it would drive me nuts. I was just wondering if was any better with later models. Is this the thermal paste or the temp setting on the fans?

Yes I would check it out at the store. This would be my first problem Mac.

Yeah.

My White MacBook 2.0 GHz has never even once mooed! The only sound to ever come from the hardware is in fact the slotloading DVD and once or twice the fans because I had it running many many programs - so I wouldn't consider it to be dangerous to buy a mac!
But it's your money and I don't know if apple would exchange it just because it's mooing...

While the odds of buying a problematic and noisy MB are not very high, the risk regrettably still lurks out there. Of course, it is always easy for Apple representatives and other contented purchasers to casually dismiss such claims or revel in their purchases because they do not have to listen to it. Assorted issues can only be appreciated when they become personal ... theoretical discussions and sympathy are fine, but do they result in any resolution?

Am I the only person who thinks the mooing sound is cute? To me, it really does sound like a field of cows :p

Siriously, Has Apple fixed these Macbooks or just replace them to start the process all over again?

Now this problem with the staining! What a mess, I think it is just like the "pitting" on the Al Powerbooks.

All this extra heat isn't helping either.

The Macbooks were just what I was looking for: A kick-ass powerfull cheap Mac portable. But, the Macbooks were not out when I purchased my mini, I love that little guy to death. I wouldn't want to ruin a perfect friendship for the Moobook.

What a pain.

I've decided to get the Pro. I figure they don't have the moo anymore, and if it does have the whine, Apple will be more inclined to listen to me since I bought a more expensive machine. And if they replace it, it'll have to be an upgrade (I hope, I'm getting the 1.83GHz model).

feeler for mac mini....

Well, after thinking about it and after Apple starting to address some of the issues, I've decieded I want to sell my Mac Mini for a MacBook.

Specs are the Core Duo model with 2 gigs of aftermarket RAM from OWC.

I was thinking $900.00.

Any thoughts...?

I had two macbooks and both had the whine and moo. I got a refund and purchased the powermac G5 I was saving up for anyways. I was going to just use the macbook for awhile and then get a mac pro, but I figured it was probably best for be to stick with a G5 for the native support for a few more years. Once the Intel portables have more of their problems ironed out, then I can snag one of them to compliment my PowerMac G5. My roommate also has a macbook and hers does not moo too often but the whine is so loud if both our doors are open (our rooms are across from each other) I can hear it in my room. That put a bad taste in my mouth for the MB right now.

Pleeeeaase for your sake wait until WWDC - It’s so close now, you may as well. As always with Apple, there is the smallest chance that they may change/update the product line slightly, fix bugs, whatever. You have the mini to keep you going until then.

It will probably pass with nothing, but if the computer has to last you years, what’s a month?

Just my thought.

My Macbook arrived yesterday. No whine, no moo, no kernel panics. Slightly tempremental Superdrive, but that appears to be an isolated incident that no one else has.

If you really want to do well, sell your mini on eBay will the finishing date the day before WWDC starts so as not to loose money on the mini when people a new one and you can buy the macbook the next day or two and your sorted.

Thanx everyone for your advice...I was thinking if I got things moving now it would be sold by that time. If they are updated and issues are fixed it would be worth the 150.00 for a new one. I was really thinking about the 950.00 refurb base model. No Superdrive either but the Macbooks SD is not really dual layer anyway right. I like the option of replacing the hard drive later too.

I have sold on ebay before but nothing close to 1000.00 any tricks I should look out for. Paypal can be scammed, I guess everything else can too. I would love to do a local transaction.

Thanks...

Hope you sell, and enjoy your new macbook.

You might want to post thread in the market place section.

Also, not to 'dis' your sale, but a brand new mini sells for $799. Sure, you got the memory upgrade, but not much of a deal there.......

I dis your non-dissing of the sale. ;)

I guess it depends on the state of the Apple eBay/wherever market at the time of sale, it’s on the steep side, but you can always get lucky - I hope you get your price :)
