Find Any File is better at some things, while EasyFind is better at others.

That's why it's a good idea to keep both within easy reach.

I disabled spotlight years (decades?) ago, never-to-be-revived again on my Macs.

why disable spotlight? (am just curious). also, i never found any differences between find any file and easyfind... what are you seeing?

Way back, years ago, when Apple first introduced Spotlight as a part of the OS, the first thing I did was TURN IT OFF. I didn't want any of that "indexing" going on with my drives.

I have NEVER used or left Spotlight enabled since.
I have other tools with which to "search for" things.

I feel like you don't understand what indexing is or what spotlight is. That's not a slam, there's just no good reason ever to turn off spotlight.

Another "Why this is getting ridiculous".

Why does iOS always want to save to iCloud? I don't want anything to do with iCloud. Remember the MobileMe fiasco? This morning I found that iCloud was the only option to save a Pages doc using Sequoia 15. Did Apple do this deliberately to fund iCloud or is it an innocent bug?

So, I had to transfer the Pages doc to another app and save that where I wanted. Very user unfriendly. I may stop using Pages.

I don't seem to have that restriction. I can save a Pages document anywhere on my disk. I was even able to save a new document to Dropbox and then open it in Pages on my iPhone. I can also do the same with OneDrive and Proton Drive.

I tried to save to multiple finder files many times, but no dice. My wife said how do you even get food in your mouth for several decades:) I've thought of trying to save to a mobile drive, but haven't yet.

are you talking about iOS? fwiw, this is the sequoia (mac OS) forum... just mentioning!

I couldn't use EasyFind for my recent search because I wanted to place separate restrictions on file names and file contents. Finder and Find Any File both allow various conditions to be specified separately. The results will be things that match all the conditions.

On the other hand, if I'm searching for only content, EasyFind claims to support a pretty extensive query language (a subset of what's used by DEVONthink - same company wrote both). I did some testing and didn't find it to be that good for anything complex. DEVONthink is amazing since everything is indexed.

I like your wife :) Mine took 4 decades to come up with the gem in my signature. I laugh whenever I think about it.

When you save a document in Pages, you are presented with a dialog that lets you give it a name and location. In that dialog there is a "Where" field for choosing that location. Make sure you've clicked on the down-arrow off to the right; that allows you to browse wherever you want to make that choice. If you don't do that, you just given a choice of locations that Apple thinks are appropriate.
