That I don't like, and given how much Facid is designed in to be used, it will be up all to frquently. Plus a hinged component such as that could easily fall of out of spec and not be accurate and or break easily. Either way its not visually pleasing, and poses significant risks of failing.
I took that as OP having a laugh but I guess I'm not sure if serious or not.

Could be the next iPod Touch? Or SE with no FaceID and TouchID on the back?

Removing the notch, you only have two options.
1. Put it behind the display panel - I don't think that's feasible.
2. Put it above, either permenantly, or some sort of drawer, or hinged design.

I'd have not minded if they just got rid of the ears on the X and had that whole space as a bezel. A larger top bezel (but not 8/8 plus large) and small bezels elsewhere would be ideal to me.

Put the hardware in the black bezel along the curve.

This is probably the only way it’s going to work. Either reduce the size of the FaceID sensors down to the size of the current bezel, or increase the bezel size to accommodate the size of the current sensors.

like this, the notch can be hide inside the body when not in use.

There was a phone that did this released last year. The catch was it's thickness.

It's an interesting idea. In the race to have the first true edge to edge screen, it may sway a major player to do it.

But you couldn't have Face ID authentication as it wouldn't be practical to need to popup the camera every time, so Touch ID in the screen would need to be back in the table, which would rule Apple out of going down this road.
