my mbp goes with me to class everyday. I carry it in a Targus backpack and it stays in a Spek clear case all the time. No problems at all.

Speaking of carpet a friend of mine just dropped his Nikon digicam onto carpet and it broke! The drop was less than 3 ft!

Because I use mine on the carpet floor because I'm disabled.

I can guarantee you that your macbook will still break if you drop it on the carpet...

that is unless you have some super thick shock absorbing, that should just be called a blanket, carpet

I bring my macBook wit me when I go to Uni everyday (except on weekends... who go to Uni on weekends though....). I hv no problem with it. Just take good care of it n everything will be fine. Handle it as if it is ur girlfriend/boyfriend.... Hehehe....

i brought my previous laptop to college for over 2 years. once it fell off a desk and rolled over the floor! luckily it was in its bag. i hated that bag as it was bulky and alkward, but only for it, my laptop would have been tecnological pizza. that laptop, about 5 years old now still works like the day i got it, and still looks almost new! get a good bag/case. dont worry about big/bulky, as long as its a backpack or something you should be ok with it. durability and padding are the most important features! im like you, i loathe bringing my MBP out of the house for fear of it falling or getting scratched, but whats teh point of it being portable if i dont. i could have just got an iMac with bigger screen!. its portable for a reason. if you bring it out occasionally you will learn to trust yourself with it.

87.6% of all statistics are made up.

I say take your mac book wherever it is useful and just be careful.

Same, I take my laptop to Uni most days, I am the only person who does, but mainly it's because the Macbook is so portable.

I dropped by powerbook (wallstreet) while getting it out of my vehicle. It hit the carpeted floor from <12" but landed just so that the HD broke. Even though that was sad it was the best excuse to upgrade to a new intel mac! :D

OK, so it's not a Mac picture.... but what the heck is a thread about falls without a picture! :D

Here is the victim of a 30" fall - to Pergo with whisper walk stuff over concrete slab. It actually happened about 4 years ago - and the screen portion just split a few months ago. Up until that point, just the hinge was bent. My kids bumped it off the spot it was sitting on lid closed.

Sony R505 on the CD dock base, rocking the house at 800mhz, P3, XPsp1, 256mb RAM and a 10gb HD.

Hey everyone, sorry I didn't mean to cause a stir but the reason I got a macbook is because I wanted something I could put on the floor. I suppose I will take it somewhere but right now I don't have the need. I write faster than I can type.

I didn't mean to cause offense to anyone I was just kind of posting. I am sorry.

If anyone got offended over your thread they need to grow up:p It's your computer that you got for your needs so you can use it however you please. I just think most people get laptops for their portability and so that they can take them out away from home, but that doesn't mean you have to.

Anyways... enjoy your laptop!!

Looks like we all agree a laptop was made to.....

A- Be brought outside, hence the reason you hopefully bought it.

B- Once you do bring it "outside" your on countdown to a scratch, ding, scuff, dent, dropping it. Because it will happen.

C- Sometimes when things wear out it's a fun excuse to buy a new one. In 3-4 years from now when some worthy new features are added to the Macbook (pro) line and here you are with yours still looking 99.99999999% mint what real incentive do you have to get a new one.

Just be anal about it when you take it out! I've taken it to class many times before and I don't like people to touch it...every once in a while I'll let a few us it, but most Its only me!

My MacBook pretty much stays at home, but I'm never affraid to drop it. I carry it around in one hand often.

I take my iBook G4 everywhere, everyday. It's been dropped, bumped and jostled around a lot. It looks great (thanks to RadTech polishing products) and works as well as the day I bought it. I imagine the MBs would hold up even better.

I was going to get a MBP next time around, but then realized it would look like crumpled aluminum foil within a year of having me for an owner. ;)

I always bring my macbook to class every day. I have an Incase sleeve for it, and my bag has a padded laptop compartment, so it has double protection.
