New but a very long time lurker.
Purchased an iPhone 17 and have the dreaded green tint and GVC panel. Compared to my iPhone 13 Pro, the 17 looks dimmer with a yellowish tone to whites.

The 17 actually looks very similar to my OLED desktop monitor, which is also LG. Warmish with quite low brightness and the dirty whites effect. I’m used to this look on desktop but not for phones.

Stock where I am seems very intermittent for another 2-3 weeks so I doubt they’d even have a replacement easily available.

Beyond 14 days would Apple still acknowledge this issue as reason for a return or replacement? Am in Australia

They won't, best to return within 14 days

They will in the U.K. anyway, got a refund last year as I threw the 30 days legislation at them.

Do you see the green tint when tilting towards you and it's just a non-issue for you, or you don't have any green tint at all?

My 17PM has an LG display that’s super uniform, bright, and with a nice natural white. It has a green shift when I tilt it towards me, but honestly, who cares? I never really do that gesture, I always look at the screen straight on.

The 17 Pro instead has a Samsung display that looks pink, more pronounced in some areas than in others. It doesn’t have the shift

Honestly this is where I'm at too. I returned the 17PM with the vaunted Samsung panel because the white uniformity was not as good as the LG's, despite having less off-axis color shift. On a webpage, or anything with a white screen, the Samsung panel cast a yellow hue on the top, and pink on the bottom, when looking at it dead-on.

This!

The display should be evaluated based on real-world use, not lab tests. Why on earth would I use the phone tilted towards me?

Here is my G9N and GVC.

Life's Good is ok imv.

I had a 17 pro max. GH3 screen terrible green tint. A big concern was in landscape mode was also very prominent. True Tone does make it worse.

I traded it for an Air so I could see how I like that phone for a couple week, and the whale was gonna live at that Pro max. It’s got a little bit of green tint tipped forward but shows none of that in landscape view or side to side angles so I can live with it. With true tone off it really doesn’t have any green tint in any direction. Interesting I haven’t gone through the ordeal of seeing which screen it is cause I don’t really care.

Every 17 promax in the Apple Store had the green tint issue. Every regular pro had none or far less of the problem. It’s definitely a bigger deal on the Pro Max. Whether it bothers you or not, I guess it’s up to the individual. I may end up with a regular pro cause I just don’t want to carry a giant brick in my pocket anymore. And I’m not sure that I can get by on just the Air’s camera. But that’s the only downside to me on the air. The batteries just fine.

You likely wouldn’t that often but maybe you would have it on a stand while you’re doing other things and depending on the angle if you were standing or sitting, you might notice.

It makes a big difference when watching video on the Pro Max in landscape mode - it’s really bad. Its far more likely that you might get a viewing angle issue while watching video in landscape mode.

It also just might not bother you at all and that’s OK!

Checked the local store, everything except 17 Pro had dimmed and greenish panels. Pro actually looked decently balanced and much better than my 16 Pro.

Didn’t even know this was a thing with iPhones until I came across a thread on it on Reddit a few days ago.
Got a 17PM on launch day and it has a LG GVC panel. It does have a slight greenish or blueish tint to it when I tilt the top of the phone towards me. Nothing too crazy where it’ll bother me honestly.
So like many others here, I wanted to test the “lottery” luck see if I can score a Samsung panel on a PM. Was able to snag 2 PM online for in-store pickup on Thursday. Picked them up yesterday and both new ones are GVC as well lol.
They also have the slight tint, but noticeably way worst full brightness! Like compared to my original PM, these two new PMs were dim af in comparison. I guess not all panels are made the same even if it’s the same type.
I decided for my mental sanity, ima just keep my original phone.
Here’s some photos for comparison. Hope I uploaded it correctly. Far left is my launch day phone. 1st photo no TT. 2nd or middle photo is with TT on. Sorry for the bad photos 😅.

I’ve been following this thread for a few days and going back and forth on what I want to do. I don’t even know if I would have noticed this issue had I not seen a Reddit thread about it, but now I can’t unsee it. I have a base 17 with GVC. The green tint is noticeable when tilting. The only time I encounter this during “natural” use is if I reach my thumb up to the top of a page for like a search icon then BAM it’s readily apparent. However for all other purposes the display is incredibly uniform and pure with even tones and colors. I am reading that the GVC and even GH3 panel on the base 17 are very common, so going through the hassle of returning the phone to Visible where I bought it feels like a chore when the next display could be the same or worse. I also think about how some users say they prefer the natural colors of LG panels anyways to the pink tints of Samsung panels. Coming from my solid base 13 panel I’ve never really had to think about this issue so I’m just kind of stuck trying to decide if I want to stick it out or try for something that “may” be better? My other thought is that if my screen ever cracks or is damaged and I replace through apple care I could go through this whole ordeal again.

I am using a Philips OLED monitor, which uses a Samsung-manufactured QD-OLED panel. My Pro Max 14 has also a Samsung Panel, so both look very similar with bright white color, not washed out and a slight red tint.

My Air has the LG GVC Screen and it is obviously less bright and less white. Maybe some people prefer this color tone, but I got used to Samsung Displays. I am returning my Air and wait for next year or until Air's are available with a better Screen. (Btw else the Screen was perfect, especially in Dark Mode - I just couldn't get used to the warm whites)

Man, that is a lot of variation between the same phone with the same screen. That can’t be normal.

Exactly my situation. Try for something that "may" be better, but also may be worse. Bothers me, but thinking of just living with it.

Crazy how some people will justify having a bad panel. Like sure, lottery is a hassle, but don't call it perfect if it shifts green the moment it goes off axis

For those who say this is nothing to worry about: would you be okay with this (see pictures) on your daily driver? Not every display is like this but there are certainly ones out there that are bad even straight on.

I stopped by an Apple Store yesterday to look at the display models: almost every other 17PM looked like this. One of the units was just a replica of this one in the picture. I even thought to myself how horrible it looked! I bought a 17PM last week and it’s G9P, so the screen does not exhibit this, even though it’s not 100% even (the right side is slightly on the cool side), but most of these screens are never perfectly uniform in the first place. Every 17 Pro looked fine without any drastic off-axis color shift. Most AIRs looked pretty bad as well, akin to the 17PM units.

That's what I thought initially, it's an unusual angle. But in real life after a week, I realized I use the phone at that angle all the time, for hours, while reading on the phone. Like sitting back in a chair in a room with overhead lights (for me it's the operating room 8h a day), phone held at chest level so arms don't tire out or resting on chest, and top tilted towards you to avoid reflections from the overhead lights. So in reality it's a very common angle.

Update: I just left the Apple Store after returning the new PMs. I tested most of their display models.
All the PMs I’ve tested are equipped with GVC whereas the regular pros equipped with G9N.
Tested a few air as well, all were GVC.
Only tested like 2 base model which came up GVC as well.
So the list from a few pages back on this thread showing the percentage of what panels are being distributed between each model, is pretty accurate at least in my area.

Interesting no gh3 on the floor

Hmm maybe that is a rarer one this go round of LG type

Don’t call it perfect either if it has a pinkish hue or if it’s not uniform.

It’s going to look like I’m some hardcore LG panels fan, but I’m really not. I just don’t get why page after page makes it seem like the only possible flaw a panel can have is blue shift off-axis.

As I said, my SO’s Air has a GVC panel with noticeable blue shift, but when you look at it straight on it’s so perfectly uniform that I’d actually take it over my G9N with no shift.

Exactly this. Good and bad are subjective. I’d rather have, and do have, a panel (GVC) that is even in tone and brightness at a normal angle, with a green shift at an angle I never use.
