The survey revealed that Mac users often describe themselves as perfectionists. Yes I definately am a perfectionist. They're also more likely than PC users to whiten their teeth Probably, drive hybrids No I have a Ferrari 360 Spider, definately not thinking about hybrids., drink Starbucks coffee Starbucks sucks. and eat organic food My mom loves to feed my organic food. Nitty-gritty research like this helps companies craft an advertising message around their customer's mindset. Again, marketing analyst Marissa Gluck.

I am 19 for all you curious people.

Wow....fascinating....

Can I have your Ferrari?

What self-respecting 19-year old Ferrari driver rolls with anything other than a decked out MBA?

I call b.s. based on this alone.

Wait a minute...maybe he means the Ferrari is 19 years old. That I would believe.

Dad bought it as a birthday gift when I was 18. I bought the macbook with my own money and the iphone with my own money(Work part time).. so yeah. Also, I am happy with MacBook as MBA is waste of money even with its 1.8. I need something for college which is portable and MacBook with 4GB and 2.16GHz is good enough for me.
EDIT: MBA is definately not worth it as I also play some games on my laptop.

Also, no need to get personal about it Mr."gauchogolfer".

i dont think assumptions about mac users are at all relevant. i know many individuals who are perectionists and use pcs as well.

lol i have a 360 spider too, both hotwheels and forza 2 versions!!:p

as much as i am jealous he was given a ferrari, i know i would accept it too if i was in his shoes lol.

I think the survey itself is suspect. Most Mac users these days look down on Starbucks and drink it only as a last resort. ;)

You know it. :p

As for this rather useless article, I think that I fit most of the other characteristics. I am more self confident than the average person, I am more of a perfectionist, I use as much public transit as possible and drive a fairly fuel efficient car (not a hybrid, but pretty good), I do care about my oral and dental health, and I do try to eat healthy food (which includes local and orgaic; thank god for living in the Bay Area :D). But you know what? Most of those qualities describe many people, including most successful professionals and other high functioning individuals.

Microsoft users are dogs. They use it because they're told to.

Apple users are cats. They use it because they feel like it.

I am SOOOOO going to use this at a future date!!!! :D

I don't fit their profile at all. I switched to Mac because after 5 years of Windows XP I was certain there had to be something better out there. The only Mac I had ever used was an old SE in the library at my college that we all used because it had a great resume template. When I started researching Windows alternatives, I wasn't even aware Apple was still in business. I had never seen a Mac ad, ( I tune out commercials when I watch TV).

I'm not a perfectionist.

I think Starbucks is the worst excuse for coffee ever.

I don't eat organic food, ( although I did manage an organics foods distribution center for a while, which explains why I don't eat it!)

Pics or didn't happen.

Unfortunately when I first got a mac yes I did think I was cool but it quickly wore off, this was about 5 years ago.

I agree with the poster who noted the statistical insignificance of the study. It's probably just that Apple computer buyers are more likely to be high-income individuals, and high income individuals are probably more likely to have the traits they found.

Let's see, I am a perfectionist, want to drive a hybrid (to save money, since I keep my car for 10 years at least, not to be hip:mad:). I'd never whiten my teeth or drink Starbucks coffee or eat organic food (unless I grow it myself;)). The teeth whitening is for vanity's sake, which I don't do. I prefer tea (cheaper than coffee and tastes better too;)). Eating organic offers too little bang for the buck for my bean counter blood.:p

So why use a Mac instead of a PC? I'm a pragmatist; I'm betting a lot of grey beard Mac users are too. On the Mac I don't have to constantly battle with the OS quirks/spyware/ad-ware/viruses and so on for control of my system. PC's are good for gaming though.

Maybe the surveyed a bunch of posers who fancies themselves to be Mac users and a bunch of bean counter (like me) on the PC side.

Well, you could say they are more aware. By choosing an OS other than Windows XP/Vista for a start. I'd imagine that many Mac users could describe the differences much better than a given Windows user.

Just being aware there is a choice is a big thing.
Being aware of the differences is another (hence Get a Mac)
Using Leopard is just another step.

I'd imagine that Mac users could move across to try Vista through computer knowledge, Windows users could move across and try Leopard through simplicity. (slighlty oversimplication).

What if you run windows on a mac? Yes, I know people who have bought macs purely to run windows in bootcamp all the time..

Oh btw, I have a bugatti veyron. Ferraris are too common. ;)

It's almost a year since I've switched. I feel like I fit the reporter's view on Mac users. :D:D:D

So how does this explain Rush Limbaugh - a Mac user? Oh, wait... that's right! He thinks he's superior to everyone else. My bad. :D

BTW: I don't fit most of the stereotypes - I just like to make informed decisions in the tools I work with - so I chose Mac. It's got nothing to do with what anyone else thinks of me, because I really don't give a damn...;)

I relate more to anyone who makes a conscious choice as to what platform they want, or need, to get their work done, whether it's Windows, Mac, Unix, Linux... than I do just because someone else uses the same OS I do. I like lots of folks who use PCs, and don't like lots of folks who use Macs. And the other way around, too. If someone's ego is all tied up in what computer platform they use, I probably don't have much interest in them one way or the other.

Having said that, though, I have noticed that when using my Mac I'm more likely to be approached by fellow Mac users who strike up a conversation, usually about something Mac related. I've met some friends this way, and it never happened when I was using a PC. Don't ask me why this is, but it's just what I've experienced. Go figure. The world of Mac is definitely more of a community than the world of generic PCs from my experiences. If it bothers non-Mac users, they should either get a life, or join the party. Or just get a little ego stroking somewhere to feel better and quit stereotyping others to compensate for something. I'm speaking as a former PC user who had no issues with Macheads, ever. Everyone chooses their own tools, or toys. That's life, so enjoy it, don't waste it. :)

Its impossible to attempt to categorize large groups of people like this. It's like saying that lung cancer causes people to smoke, because a large portion of people with lung cancer smoke. It's backwards... its not that Mac users drink starbucks its that people with money can afford starbucks and nice computers like Macs. I do however feel cooler than a PC user.

I don't think I'm better than anybody else because I use a Mac. But I do think my computer is better than most peoples'.

I don't drink Starbucks (we don't have it here.. though we have Caribou)... a true hipster would drink coffee from a locally owned shop, duh! I don't whiten my teeth and I don't eat organic food... I always buy local before I consider organic... but mostly I just buy the cheapest.

for my purchasing mac it never involved a commercial
pc did not work too well for me
mac worked out great
no tv ad involved

Refreshing

That's sense pdxflint, very refreshing, thank you.

For what it's worth, I have a macbook pro (about a year and a half old) I am a bit of a perfectionist, I don't have a car because I live in central London where it is unnecessary to own one, I really don't like Starbucks, and I eat organic food whenever possible.

Anyone who derives any sense of self-worth or self-importance from a damn computer or operating system is too stupid to live.

I don't feel cooler, I know I am

While my PC brothers are struggling with blue error screens and random shut downs, I am browsing MacRumors chugging along

It's been two years since I switched to Mac exclusively.

I don't judge people based on what system they use, but I will say Macs are way cooler. IME, they're much better all the way around - the coolness is a nice perk. :)

Well now, that was a load of bulls**t.

I like Starbucks, but never bring my computer in with me.

Granola is disgusting, never eat it.

I have a Wacom tablet and I draw, but the results are just drawings, not "art."

I am not hip.

I can name at least 1,000,000,000 people who are superior to me.
