So I'm contemplating my next smartphone purchase, and I'm leaning heavily toward the Galaxy Note III. However I'm trying to figure out how to manage such an unwieldy phone in a gym setting, and while running. On the opposite end, I'm also leaning toward the iPhone 5S because of it's size, and portability. Are there any of you that run/workout, that also use a phablet. If so, how do you manage the size?

I use my S4 as my music in the gym and it works great. love the slide to change the song with my hand...

I used my iPhone 4 when I had it for any activity I did, whether running, walking or simply mowing the lawns (I almost walk 10km when doing a full mow!) and I will do the same with my HTC One. Not only does it give me some music to listen to which I enjoy it acts as a recorder of where I've been or how much I've done as well as timing it.

I used to use my iPhone 4 in the gym when I still went, but gave that up to work more on basic cardio and plyometrics, which is more in tune to the sport I play.

It uses the same button combos as the ones you can use on the 4th gen Shuffle and iPhone, right? I guess it wouldn't be too bad, I do use the headphone controls a lot while running.

yeah it is the same scheme as the 4th gen and iphone. I never used the controls....just turn in on and go, but I always thought it was easier to reach for the controls on the headphones vs the device itself.

I use my sIII in the gym with bt headphones. I just put nt in the floor under what ever bench or machine I'm using with my water and notebook, straps, dip belt, etc. Haven't had an issue. I mostly use pandora, the gym music blows.

That is gutsy depending on where you work out :)

It looks like the obvious answer to my problem is an iPod nano. I had the square touch screen nano with the clip, and lost it(or it was stolen). I don't need my phone with me in the gym, but I like having my phone with me on long runs for the camera. Looks like I will wait for the iPod refresh since it's so close, and then go from there. Thanks for all of the advice. :p

When I go to the gym, I have an old mp3 player that I won't care if something happens to it. I use my S4 and the app runtastic when I run or hike.

Yes.

I use my hTc One and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE ad an iPod & iPad.

The beats audio is great and MultiWindow or Pop-Up Video is amazing while I'm on the treadmill or bike.

Today is leg day for me. The GS4 is in my pocket.

After I'll do a two miler.

Most of the time I don't even notice it. I do however use Apple Earpods because they stay in my ear better than all other headsets I own.

I'll have to checkout the Jaybird Bluebuds based upon the feedback in this thread.

I am a personal trainer and I work out a lot. I currently own the gn2 while I work out I carry my phone in a fanny pack safely tucked away while listening to my music. And i keep my car keys in the bag too. Never had a problem with my fanny pack.

So yes :)

Our gym prohibits devices with cameras for security reasons .... no one wants to be caught with a sweaty kate bush !

That's really stupid what gym is this? Security reasons? Our members would flip if they were told no phones allowed with cameras. ..

No, I have a 7th Gen. Nano and a Shuffle for use while exercising although I've not been using them as much as I should lately.

Have been listening to Google Play Music All Access on my phones a lot recently, plus I like to record my walks and runs with Endomondo Sports Pro.

I'm in the gym quite often, but a fanny pack just isn't for me. With that being said, I went on a trip this weekend, and found my square clip on touch screen nano I've been missing for a year now safely tucked away in my luggage. Go figure, but super excited to have it back!

Yes.

Use my iPhone 5 at the gym, connected wirelessly via BT to a pair of Jaybird Bluebuds. It's a match made in heaven!!

This is the way to go. Jaybirds are pretty awesome, they easily carry across the entire gym. We have small temporary lockers which are on the gym floor and I can put my phone inside one of these and have no issues getting reception clear across the other side of the gym. I primarily only stream music from DI.FM and SKY.FM apps.

I have the older Jaybirds, I've been really tempted to buy the bluebuds which are a bit smaller than the ones I have. How do you like em?

Loving them!! Jaybird sorted out the initial issues where the headphones were not properly sweat proof, now they rock solid. Sound quality is good, range improved and battery life up from 4 to 8 hours. The voice notifications are a handy edition too, don't know how I survived for so long without them...

Get em!!

Cool thanks, I think I'm going to grab a pair. I can't say enough how much I love the original jaybirds, I still use them to this day.
