- A stylus to creatively express my ideas throughout the products applications
and
- Ability to conduct iChat conferences

Handwriting recognition and a pressure sensitive stylus for painting. Also, a backfacing camera - Yes, I might want to snap a picture of two with this rather than taking out my phone, taking the shot, having to take out my camera kit, connect iPhone to iPod and transfer it.

I know a lot of people say they'll want a front facing camera even though they probably don't ever use the one on their Mac anyway, but I'm one of those who actually would really like a camera; I do video iChats a lot.

Maybe a smaller bezel? There isn't much else I can think about the hardware to be honest… Most other things people want can be updated with software.

I do want Apple to invent some sort of touchscreen "feel" ability; allowing you to feel the separation between keys, or icons, or other objects, and it can change dynamically depending on the App. I think that's the next big innovation to come to the iPad/iPhone.

Higher resolution display (preferably keeping the aspect ratio though), pressure sensitive stylus for drawing, haptic feedback (being able to feel the buttons, keys etc), better video out

You can get a stylus for $15 that will work with the iPad. It's good they aren't including one as it will drive finger input, which is so much easier to use, imo. If we are talking having a stylus for special applications like drawing and stuff, having as an accessory seems like fine option.

I assume there will be an "app for that", at least for text, whiteboarding, and voice. So, unless you mean video chat or iChat specifically for some reason, this should be a non-issue well before v2.

I have no desire for a camera for taking photos or video chat or anything, BUT an autofocus cam on the iPad would be GREAT for portable document imaging. If I could take a quick hi-res shot of a piece of paper and start marking it up with the iPad, maybe OCR, etc, it would be awesome.

I can see argument for front facing (big, even lighting from the screen like the way PhotoBooth works - good for shooting a sheet of paper up close) and rear facing (can visually line up the shot - good for capturing a whiteboard). Maybe both? :D

We haven't even had version 1.0 yet and we are talking about 2.0?

Please, get off your high horse...iPad will likely never have many of the things people want it to be (stylus input for example). It is what Apple makes it as. If you don't like go buy a tablet PC that allows stylus input. Just like how iPhone and iPod Touch users still want certain abilities allowed, it may never happen or take years to occur. It took two years for copy and paste to be on the iPhone.

Just enjoy the product as is now...or buy something else. Nobody is forcing you to choose Apple products.

There will always be whiners who want more, bigger, better...but through all that whining fail to see what a great product iPad already is and how it outdoes all other competition CURRENTLY available. Apple is great and doing things better...period.

I have no idea what high horse you are talking about. It is a fact there there will be a V2 right? Or is this the final version of the iPad forever? If there are people out there who will wait for V2, I want to know what they are waiting for exactly. Are we really not allowed to talk about anything that you incorrectly perceive as slightly critical? Apple will make improvements. Get over it.

It'd be nice if they integrated an SD card reader..

And allowed it to be additional storage.

(I have a bad feeling that in the v1 the only software that will be able to access the reader is iPhoto)

1080p HDMI output...

I'd love to use the iPad to drive my projector (or HDTV), so I could buy/download true HD movies online and just plug the iPad into my projector/HDTV. I don't like watching movies on a little portable screen.

Plus, I do a lot of photography presentations. 1080p would match my projector, and let me leave the laptop at home.

I'm excited about the iPad (and getting one), but the most disappointing feature to me was the crummy VGA output resolution. Anyway, I'm sure this is something that'll get better in V2, V3...

I thought I saw somewhere that you can get component cables for the current iPad.

Support for 1024 by 768 pixels with Dock Connector to VGA Adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable

-Pen
-Bigger screen/smaller bezel
-Triple battery life
-Multitasking
-HD capability (at least 720p) and capability to stream to a TV Wirelessly.

I really don't think most of what people are asking for will come true with new hardware.

Flash support - Never happening. Ever. Steve Jobs will force the internet to switch to HTML5 or H264. Just look at how many sites are going to iPhone encoded video. The success of the iPhone + iPod touch (and soon the iPad) is too large for web hosts to ignore.

Pen support - There are already variations of this. There don't seem to be any limitations as to why Apple can't implement this using the current hardware.

Multitasking - I completely want this and see it coming via software. No new hardware required.

Battery life - The iPad's is pretty darn good, but of course, as seen with iPods and iPhones, a slight battery increase is inevitable with the 2G iPad.

Camera - Definitely see this happening with the traces of code found in the 3.2 OS. An iChat app with a front facing camera would be awesome.

Lower price - Stop mentioning this! The only reason the iPhone received a $200 price drop was because it was priced extremely high and meant to be a device for an exclusive few. It was $600, subsidized! Phil Schiller made note of the price during the 8 minute iPad video and stated that typically, prices of new technology are high and then decrease overtime, and then continue to claim that with the iPad, they wanted to wait and bring it to market when it was at a price where it was affordable to a mass market. That's exactly what the iPad is: Priced to sell.

All I see for the next update is a camera and increased battery life.

Joo Joo form factor which iPad should of had from the get go!

No comment as the current iPad isn't even on the shelves yet . . . a bit premature

What is premature? It is a known fact that Apple comes out with new revisions, often after a year, sometimes even sooner than a year. In this free market, some people will decide to wait for the next revision, some won't. Those who wait need to wait now. Not wait later. So the waiting that is happening right now can not be premature. It is waiting right now. Waiting for V2 a year ago was premature. This thread is for those who are waiting. See the title.

The stuff I mention below might not even happen, but I'm hopeful (there are just my opinion):

WOULD DIE FOR

-Tactile feedback (Apple filed for a patent a while back for iPhone, seems like a really good chance to get that technology working here. Being able to feel the keyboard keys and every button you press would be an awesome touch experience, real "magic")

-16:9 aspect ratio (I read somewhere that the current aspect ratio is as it is because the iPad would be awkward to hold should they make it widescreen. I still don't buy it. If anyone can do it, it's Apple, and watching true HD would be awesome )

-Multitasking (I've already got this on my jailbroken iPod touch, there's a great app called "ProSwitcher" which basically incorporates Palm Pre style multitasking management on iPhone OS. It is a treat to use and incredibly smooth/simple. Something like this for iPhone OS, without the hack, would be great, then again, I could always jailbreak the iPad and get it myself if Apple doesn't supply it, although there's always the battery issues that could arise. If Apple does multitasking on the iPad, then I fully expect some new way to manage tasks so the backgrounders don't eat up at the battery).

-Slightly lower price for 3G model/bump in space and RAM/processor.

-Newer screen technology (There's some neat innovations that should be coming out within the next year that reduce battery life usage and keep screen quality intact. Apple should look into something like this, especially if they want to boast battery life/multitask. The current screen is beautiful, just take it one step further).

-Front and back facing cameras (For video conferencing and...pictures? Not sure about backfacing, but front facing would be a must).

WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE, BUT NOT ESSENTIAL

-Handwriting recognition technology (I know it's a finger touch oriented device, but an accessory that allows you to use the iPad as an actual "pad" would be awesome in some situations, in a conference, jotting down notes...it would require some repsonsive technology to be worthwhile, though. Also, as a student, if I'm in an economics class and I need to draw a graph my professor draws on the board, I'd rather not take a separate piece of paper as I do now, but have the ability to enter handwriting mode right in Pages and draw it on the iPad.)

-More independence from computer (Currently, you need a Mac/PC to use the iPad to its full capabilities. Jason Snell talked about this from Macworld, it would be awesome if the iPad 2 could be less dependant on a home base - meaning the computer -. Include a USB port to possibly plug in a camera and transfer photos/an SD card reader, for instance, instead of selling it separately. The iPad's got a filesystem, so I'm looking forward to Apple to find ways to move away from the computer and make the iPad a self-sustained product).

-Lighter/thinner. (I'm not obsessed by the thin factor that Apple keeps pushing for its products, and I believe in form and functionality, but make the iPad slightly thinner and lighter, and it's a total winner).

Multi-User password protected email accounts
USB port
HDMI
Multi-Tasking
Front facing camera/iChat

The display quality is already great (it looks to be anyway), but that's a prime selling point -- continued improvement there. And for me the storage size is too small to use for much beyond books, email and music, so I'm just getting the 16GB model. I'd like to see much bigger storage capacity and a seamless interface with camcorders (preferably standard interface like a full-featured usb) including file format support. I don't expect to see a really usable storage capacity for at least a couple of years though. (I guess I don't fit the topic though, I'm not waiting for v2).

Multi-User password protected email accounts are a biggie for me and something that could be easily implemented through software I would assume.
The iPad is going to be sitting in our living room for everyone to use/look at and it sure would be nice not to have other snooping in my email!
I am going to have to be careful to deleted all messages after retreaving I guess. ;)

Well, all I can think of for hardware is:

USB ports
This is just a must have. Hopefully two. I'm sure Apple will find a way to make the USB ports kinda invisible.

Front and back facing camera
Well, I might take some pictures with the back facing camera once in a while and front facing camera would probably something I would only use twice a year but it'd be a nice addition.

Software:
Multitasking
I'm not sure about this yet. Maybe the iPad works very good without multitasking, but I still would like to listen to the radio once in a while without using Safari (otherwise I can't browse any more.. lol).

Multiple users
Well, multiple users: just more persons that can use the tablet.

Password protection for some apps
Like for email (see the reaction above me). ;)

What's the point of USB ports? What would you really use them for? Transferring any content from your camera can be done with the $29 camera kit. Syncing any media can be done with the included USB cable via your Mac or PC. All your other data can be stored in the cloud.
