I live in a rural area where WiFi isn’t an option at home. I have unlimited data with AT&T, but it only allows a certain amount for hotspot usage.

With an LTE iPad, I get 22 gb untethered on two devices vs only 1, which ultimately allows me a lot more usage.

Since it’s my only real option for internet usage, and I do Disney travel planning from home, I feel like it’s a must.

I also really like when I’m out and about that I don’t have to either use my phone, or hunt for a WiFi network somewhere, or when we have a hurricane with extended power outages that would likely affect other services (we have generators so charging them isn’t an issue).

I use mine everyday. I still have the original ATT grandfathered unlimited plan on my iPad and iPhone. I have the new 12.9 pro. I’m overnighting for work in a Holiday Inn express hotel. Their WiFi is 3mbs. The local ATT LTE is showing 66mbs. Of course I’m using the faster data. Being connected never has to be a concern. Having options is the best option.

Even at upscale hotels in large urban areas this is a problem. Poor in-house networks coupled with a lot of in-house users translates into poor signal strength and/or low bandwidth. Plus, more hotels are charging for WiFi or an add-on fee for "better bandwidth" while also limiting device connections. The hotel industry is finding that WiFi and in-house parking are great sources of revenue as add-on room charges. LTE can be real handy.

Now if we also could find a solution for those parking costs....

I get the cellular version since I take my iPad out of the house with me daily and it’s much more convenient to just turn it on and have data available without tethering. Besides, it only costs me $5 per month for my iPad to share the data on my mobile plan. I have 60GB per month for my iPhone plan, so for $5 extra, my iPad uses that data too via an additional SIM (not tethering).
My cellular iPad is particularly useful right now in hospital too.

LTE version for the regular size iPad Pro, and WiFi for the 12.9 one. Using tethering is feasible on paper only, the actual experience is not that pleasant.

I will add... sometimes I leave my phone at home and go out with my iPad and my watch. If I could drop the phone service all together, I’d consider it.

I actually did that! I am still grandfathered in on the original unlimited AT&T data plan for iPads and had it on my iPad mini for years. Set up a google phone number, and between that & texting/emails didn’t need a phone at all. Worked great.
