Oh I'm definitely going the iMac route with my next computer. My late 2013 Macbook Pro stays docked with two monitors 90% of the time, and I use my 12.9 iPad Pro as my portable computer. I'm using an older Mac Mini as a file sever, and an iMac could replace both my Macbook Pro and my Mac Mini. Though it will be a little while. I think I can squeeze another year out of my current setup.

I'd be really happy if Apple would release a new mini with something like the intel i7 NUC spec.

Give me RAM slots, thunderbolt 3 ports and an internal PCIe M.2 SSD slot.

I don't need an internal GPU in the thing or onboard. I don't need more than one M.2 slot - i can use my NAS for bulk storage. I already have a monitor and other peripherals.

Not getting a iMac but use a Mac Mini as an home/media server. The 12.9 IPP has replaced my 13” MacBook Pro. I have a 27” qhd display on the mini. So serious work is done on that anyway. After having laptops for years I purchased the mini right before the newest gen came out and maxed it out with ram and multiple ssd drives. I really like having a main digital hub and workstation. The MacBook Pro/iPad 4 worked well for me for a long time. It’s just now this seems to be a better option for my needs.

So I've barely used my laptop since I've gotten my iPads Pro, like a lot of others have already discussed.

However, I still do need MacOS occasionally, but day to day use, my iPad Pro with iOS 11 is perfect. The main reason I've been using laptops for the last 15+ years is because I've wanted something functional yet portable.

With this new iPad Pro though, I've found that I'll be okay with just leaving MacOS at home and bringing around my iPad Pro. I would still keep my 2012 MBP Retina around, since that's still as powerful as new 13" base models if I do need MacOS + portability.

With all this said, I've been thinking about getting an iMac lately, something I'd never considered. Also, you get a much better bang for your buck with an iMac compared to MBPs. A $1500 iMac has better specs than a $1500 MBP.

So since my iPad is fine for all my portable needs (and sometimes it's even better than a MBP if I need to take notes or write), I'll be in the market for an iMac for my next computer. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I made that move a bit over a year ago. I had been using a 15 inch MBP with a 9.7" iPad. But then I upgraded to a 12.9" iPad and my MBP never left my desk. The screen sizes made them feel so similar, even though they were mostly being used for different things. So I decided to get a 27" iMac to replace the MBP, which I never thought I would even consider. I love it. It's a great combo. All the screen real estate I need when working at the desk, and a usable but portable mobile screen in the large iPad. When I leave town, the iPad does everything I need it to do.
