I stopped myself from having regrets by not upgrading this year.

The whole week after the event I was hyping myself up to upgrade to the 14 pro max. However once reviews came out and I thought about it more, my hype kinda faded. Even though I was almost certain to upgrade this year.

I got a 13 Pro Max and I decided to do a pros and cons list for upgrading.

Pros:
* Much better ultra wide camera (I love the ultra wide)
* better front facing camera
* bluetooth 5.3
* Always On Display (I actually like the way apple implemented this)

Cons:
* Dynamic Island im mid on right now. I don’t like it sits lower than the 13 notch. I also think it would be annoying to watch 2:1 videos such as MKBHD and having the pill be in the way.
* Battery life is almost the same if not worse than my 13 Pro Max
* Blind camera tests on Youtube, I found myself vastly liking 13 Pro Max photos over the 14 Pro Max. I do not like the oversharpening that’s going on. (Photos make or break a phone to me so I believe this was the biggest factor for my reversal and not upgrading)

I took all of this into consideration and decided I’ll wait it out till next year. I’m especially hyped for usb-c and the periscope lens (plus other benefits)

I have an engineering degree, so I’ll assume you are the one who can’t be serious.
Well I suggest you start using it then, because the stainless steel band is exactly the same as the iPhone13 Pro Max. Same material. Same specs. It’s not “lighter this year.” If they had switched to titanium, then it would be lighter.

I’d love to see those battery stats SS. Must be a very light user?

In the end it was 33 hours when the battery died.

I was back and forth on AOD, Sunday I was constantly on it looking at my fantasy teams, e-mails and texts regularly, listened to music and podcasts, some YouTube and Facebook and Facebook messenger. Quite a few phone calls with speaker. I keep brightness at around 3/4.

Don’t know what a heavy user is, I probably fall in the middle. I’m very impressed with this phone.

I'm torn between the island and notch. The island sits lower so its more visible when I look at the two phones side by side. But my old phone is already spoken for so I'm keeping the 14PM.
Have to say, it’s a nice island. Its role as a mini-control panel is pretty handy, and it makes switching supported apps even easier. Not sure it’s worth an upgrade in and of itself, but I really enjoy it, as opposed to the notch, which I was neutral-to-against.

I am on the iPhone upgrade program so I would have felt a bit cheated by not upgrading from the 13PM to the 14PM. It is one of the more boring upgrades I have to say. No killer features for me and I am not a fan of the even larger camera bump. If I wasn't on the upgrade program and had paid a lot to upgrade I wouldn't be happy (but I probably would have stuck with the 13PM). Its not a bad phone, just not a whole lot different.

Curious if you’ve updated your 13 PM to iOS 16 and if so have you noticed photos oversharpened or still not?

Not at all! Was tired of the old notch. Love the dynamic island, new cameras, new A16 chip, ios 16 all together makes a nice upgrade. But that’s just me. For others it might not be enough.

I couldn't return it if I wanted to, wife inherited my 13PM, she had an 11, huge upgrade for her and no way is she giving that back. but overall I'm really liking the PM Blk 512.
Did the same with my wife. She had an 11 and I gave her the 13PM. She says the same thing, she loves it and definitely not giving it back haha! Plus the battery life with her old 11 compared to the 13PM is significantly better.

I have no regrets I upgrade every year and in most recent years I feel like this has been one of the bigger updates.

No but only because where I live I’m getting much better reception and net cost to me was $200. Otherwise the other changes would not have been enough for me to keep it.

I’m loving the 14 Pro Max! Of course it’s not very different than the 13 Pro Max. But for me the improvements often take time to appreciate. It’s the unexpectedly amazing photograph. Maybe existing apps will adopt Dynamic Island further improving that experience. The display does seem brighter. I have no regrets!
I would say the display is very noticeably brighter. I leave auto-brightness on and I'm continually turning the display down, or at least it feels that way!

The camera: I agree with the comment as far as Pro Raw goes. Do you see much difference with photos taken with the standard file size?

I was on the fence about upgrading for the first time ever (I always do yearly upgrades). I LOVED the 13 Pro Max. Everything about the phone was great, and the battery life was absolutely incredible.

I upgraded to the 14 Pro Max and have been pleased with it. I'd say battery life is on-par to just slightly worse (in my personal experience), but I'm liking the new cameras and the Dynamic Island. Screen looks great too.

I'm really liking it. It's an iterative update but it brings some nice little improvements that make it a great phone.

I very much believe those battery stats. I regularly average 48 hours between charges with an average of 4-8 hours usage (I typically use the phone 2-4 hours per day so probably a "lighter" user than most).

On my 13PM (currently) I'm at 21% battery life left and I last charged it 47 hours ago. In those last 47 hours, I had 5 hours and 21 minutes screen on/4 hours and 5 minutes screen off.

I personally like the feel of the smaller sized phones but I can't bring myself to switch solely because of the impressive battery life on the Max size.

Accoding to the specs the 14PM is slightly narrower than the 13PM. Has anybody noticed this in use?

Assuming the specs are correct the 14PM is even slightly narrower than the S22 ultra now too.

Never said it was different. Don’t really care for your opinions anymore either.

The reasons to get the iPhone 14 Pro Max is much simpler than to decide if not to keep it because with the iPhone 14 Pro Max you do not gets the unlucky iPhone 13 Pro Max because 13 is unlucky and who wants to be the one who is unlucky. The 14 is like one more than the 13 and more is always better than less so of course to get the 14 is going to be better than the 13. It is not always so easy to see these things and to have the iPhone when it is new because people will always says things that are not so true and then you have to ask them why they say these things. But when you are for to ask them then only then you are to say to yourself that you should be not ask of them because only you should be ask you to know whether you want. For me, I decide to keep the better phone.

Nope, I knew it was going to be a smallish upgrade as far as day-to-day use. The camera upgrades are enough for me as I love shooting proRAW and the dynamic island it is cool and all, but as stated before day-to-day use is unaffected.

But if I ever get lost (I do enjoy hiking) then having that satellite connectivity will be nice
