It’s pretty good. Some little bugs but overall it’s solid. The change to closing apps is lame though. It was faster to hit the red minus sign to close apps then swipe away one at a time. They should’ve kept that.

You can slide two apps at once ... sliding is much faster, IMO. :)

Exactly. No precision required; just a quick little flick anywhere on the card and it’s gone. They may add the red minus sign back and allow either mode (that’s the way it used to be), but I’ve never used it; always preferred the flick-away mode.

Làying sideways in bed and using face ID

Oh, I almost always lie on my back when using my phone. I just find it far more comfortable. As for FaceID, I imagine you'd have to be careful to not let your face get distorted when lying on your side; might be hard to do.

Guys if I get the public beta and decide to go back to iOS 11 is that a problem?

also I'm doing this on my main personal device....is it worth the risk?? thanks

Not with one hand. It’s faster to tap a bunch of times to quickly close everything. It was a mistake to remove that functionality.
Sure, but by the time you've held the cards long enough to get the red 'close' button in the first place, you'd have flicked the app away and returned to your home screen already, with the new system. ;) Anyway, no point in arguing about it. I (like most people) greatly prefer the new system, but I can sort of see why you'd like the old way. I guess if you're that disappointed in the new system, you can simply refrain from upgrading.

Um, no. It’s still faster to tap than to make a motion. Not that hard to figure out.

You’re right though, there is no point in arguing about it. Apple screwed up by removing a nice feature. A shame. Fortunately there are improvements in iOS 12 that are worth upgrading for even with the dumbed down app switcher.

Except that you have to aim/move your finger to a certain spot on the screen to dismiss the app. There’s movement there, and definitely more movement than the little flick necessary to dismiss it without the button.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the red-minus showed up again before GM as an additional dismissal option (like the way it’s always been).

I know I'm begin gauche, replying to my own comment, but just a follow up on this. When I bring up the task manager, it begins with a small swipe up from the very bottom of the phone. This means that when the app cards are displayed, my thumb is still near the bottom of the phone ... a quick flick up on the card in question can be done with no further effort. Going for the red-minus all the way at the top of the card requires decidedly more movement and far more precision than the quick tick up with the thumb where it is already sitting.

I understand not everyone does things this way. Some people will already have fingers near the top of the of phone, I guess (though they still have to 'aim' their tap), and some people like to close lots of apps at once (not sure why, but to each their own) in which case the initial cost of moving your hand up to the top of the phone and aiming for that red dot may pay off if they're closing enough apps at once, but I don't think that's the most common use-case, and IMO doesn't warrant labeling the 'flick up' method a degradation in usability.
