It is intentional that they kept 64gb for a lot of options, they want users to pay the $250+ for the upgrade. They can easily put 128gb on all their devices and not charge extra, main reason why I kept my 10 s max. It has 256gb because 64gb doesn’t cut it.

literally the 2013,2015 and 2018 Mac book pro had the higher end stock config solely because 256gb on a pro machine is a joke. But the 2013 higher end config also came with 16gb of ram, which was nice.

It all depends on the price for me. If the 5.4” iPhone starts at $599- $649, it’s reasonable.
Agreed but $1100 for 64gb is a joke, especially with the pro name and camera quality. people will take photos.

I don't care, some people really act like it's impossible to buy higher storage options.
Yes, I agree. I don’t really understand this. For me, honestly, I buy the maximum storage offered every time. I just don’t want to think about it ever being a problem.

I bought a 128 gig se coming from Android because I’d always fill up my 128 gig android phone and I’ve been struggling to come anywhere near filling it up due to apples restrictions (no torrents, the hassle in syncing downloaded computer videos etc) I’d basically do everything computer wise on my android phone and I can only do “phone stuff” on the iPhone. Anyway long story short after d/long tons of random stuff on Netflix and Spotify for the lulz I’m still only at 45 gigs used so 64 seems fine for iOS to me.

I bought 64gb se only because that was the one with a discount. If i were to pay the full price then i would opt in for 128gb.
Anyway 64gb is enough, since most of the time we buy 128-256 base models of macbooks. For me, bigger storage on mac makes more sense than my phone, since i can always dump out photo library to my mac and google photos. Otherwise it will not make any sense to pay premium price for 256 gb on my iphone and have no ability to import photos on my mac, since i bought base model because no money left.

Becuase I use iCloud for my photos and videos and don’t store music on my phone. I have never had an issue with 64gb and would have no issues with buying a 64gb 12 Pro if that ends up being the base model.

Ok, it looks like we’ll have 64GB again, at least, in the non-pro iPhone 12s. I know many here upgrade to a higher storage tier, but I’m personally fine with 64GB. I’ve had a 256GB iPhone X for the last three years and it’s only ever been 20-30GB full. I usually save space by uploading photos to Google Photos and then exporting the originals to my MBP. Don’t have a crazy number of apps. To those who are more conservative, like me, how do you make it work? To those who need and use the increased storage, how are you using it?
Apple, the master of upselling.

I mean did we forget how long Apple kept 16GB as the base storage?

Having said that, 64GB is actually quite ample for many. With more and more people are opting for streaming services, imo large storage is no longer a huge necessity for the lay user. Of course, individual needs will be different. I myself consider 128GB to be the sweet spot.

based on my own usage I could get away with a 64 GB phone just as I only have around 50-60 GB of apps and data on mine normally.

BUT upgrades, etc. would need me to juggle space and with the 128 I have, I can just forget about it.

I don't use my phone as a "primary device" though, that's left to my iPad and MacBook which are 256 GB and 1TB respectively.

IMO 64GB is laughable these days. You might be able to get away with 64GB for another year but 2-3 years down the line it’s going to cause you problems.
If a user had no problem with 64GB or less for the past five years, I doubt he/she will suddenly need more (double/quadruple) in the next 5 years.

I think £799 will be a lot of money for a phone in 2020 with just 64GB. If that is the price point then i’ll be getting it and relying further on iCloud storage. Poor if the rumours are true.

I'd be fine with 32GB. I pay $45 a year for 500GB of cloud storage so i see no point in spending hundreds extra on an iPhone with more storage.

We need to remember how long Apple stuck with 16GB. :D
But at least Apple offers higher storage options. The competitors like Samsung now has the tendency to only offer one storage option for the lower model, forcing people to get the higher tier model if they want more storage.

Maybe im misunderstanding, but if you have ~60GB filled on your current device, you would have to do some house cleaning to get your stuff on a 64GB iPhone. You’d be lucky to have 50GB of usable space on a
64GB device.

Big difference is that most 16GB Samsung phones came with expansion slots that could be used to add storage. If the user already had a card they move from phone to phone, it saves them money. iPhone owners are stuck with what they get. And back when iCloud wasn’t as useful/reliable, it was not good. BUT a lot of those 16GB iPhone owners didn’t complain much.

As an Android user, SD card expansion on Android phones cannot really be justified as actual expandable storage. Today, there are fewer and fewer apps that are moveable to the SD card. That leaves the SD card only mostly for the camera storage, but even then, burst shots are not stored in SD since it’s too slow.

I think that's a pretty broad generalization. For people who make use of cloud storage and don't try to download tons of media for offline use, 64 GB is easily enough to load up any and all apps you want and still have room left for them to function.

I personally prefer to keep a lot of stuff downloaded (music mostly) and so I'm more in the 128 GB camp -- but plenty of people pack-rat a lot less than I do.

I was referring back when 16GB was the standard base. Today, the argument for SD storage isn’t as strong.
