I bought one this week after months of deliberation. It is a personal taste thing, but this is the best smart phone on the market right now IMO. It's build quality is wonderful, it's form factor is better than the iPhone (a big call, but I've owned both now and it's an informed opinion), and the OS is superb. Much has been made of the Meego/Harmattan debacle, but let me say this without ambiguity:
Harmattan on the N9 is the most elegant, beautiful, intuitive OS ever to be put on a phone.
After a few days with it, my feeling about this is only stronger.
I spent a few hours messing with one at the store, and then picked up a new iPhone 4Gs. The iPhone felt clunky and awkward in comparison. This is a big call for me, because it has been my opinion for a long time that nothing comes really close to the iPhone in form or functionality. However, the N9 has done it. I really encourage anyone interested to actually check one out for themselves and forget reading uninformed opinions about it online. After only a few minutes you will, like me, be sold on it's elegance. Everything else feels bad after it.
I've used three iPhones (2G, 3G, and 4G), and an Android, as well as a slew of other pre-smart phones, and spent about an hour messing around with a Win 7 HTC. Android is unresponsive, bloated, and difficult in comparison. Windows 7 is ugly, awkward, and incomplete despite all the publicity and Elop's manic (and suspect - he's ex MS and owns millions in MS shares) support. iOS is slick, robust, and beautifully fluid, but is locked down by Apple. That nice wad of memory you have is useless outside of the App Store. The N9 is gorgeous in every department, and I have full access to the memory without any silly messing around. Plus I get to ditch iTunes - a big selling point for me as I've always disliked it, and it only gets worse with each iteration.
So, I can't really say any more. Fanboys won't listen no matter what is said, but if you're even slightly interested in the N9 I guarantee you won't be disappointed by it. I'm loving mine. Best phone I've ever owned.
