I guess I am picky, same as almost all of the people posting their problems!

It's not picky to want a perfect machine. That's what you're paying for. You're also under no obligation to buy a refurb of course but they are a great option for some folks is all I was saying. They are refurbished to new condition.

You prefer new, that's fine.

I gathered that you were entirely committed to the Mac, considering your on the 6th one. :)

Your equation doesn't compute. It's non-sequitur. You've had six in two weeks, okay. How does that mean that my machine went to two-three different people in less than a weeks time? Do you know that your previous five machines have already been refurbished and resold to other customers?

And I know exactly why they call them refurbs.. Is is returned (or an E.O.L. product), in which there is either a hardware issue or it the customer simply didn't want the machine. They replace anything on the body that would have cosmetic damage, along with repairing the hardware issue in question, then inspecting the computer much more thoroughly than a new machine made by an assembly line. Also, with laptops they replace the battery and the entire casing.

My computer looks just as new as your machine, except without your yellow tint.

When I returned my 5th Imac at future shop they din't even ask questions or open the box....they must send it back to Apple.

You really think that apple will tell you that everything is fine on the machine....I don't think so.

Quality control is obviously not well manage for ****tup computers are still going out week 05!

Common don't try to sell me that your refurb is perfect.

If so, if you are content, then good for you!

Canon EOS,

Would you settle for a yellowish screen for editing your picture?

Probably because you’ve been a customer in there a lot frequently with incessant complaints. They’re a third party retailer, I doubt they care much anyways.

Yeah, I do think so. “Before we put a refurbished Mac, iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV up for sale in Special Deals, it undergoes a rigorous refurbishment process to make sure it's up to Apple's tough quality standards. We back it with our standard one-year limited warranty. And you have the option of purchasing an AppleCare Protection Plan for it.”

Not sure why I’d lie.. It wouldn’t make me feel any better. If there was a single issue with it, I would have returned it immediately. I haven’t installed any Apple-issued problem resolving firmware, and all is still perfectly well.

They must have made you feel special.

And actually got 3 from Best buy, they were the worst ones and 2 from Future Shop......They were more compliant to my needs then Apple tech support that's for sure!

And by WE you mean? WE as in our Company....I knew it, you work for Apple lo00ol

Actually no, they didn’t at all. I ordered around 1 A.M. online, so I had no interaction with anyone.

I think you’re a little off base here. Not sure if you know, but BestBuy owns Future Shop. BestBuy (and presumably Future Shop) is typically vary compliant with returns, as long as your return qualifies within the return period. Maybe you should buy from an actual Apple store, they (Apple technicians|) tend to be much more compliant and willing to help if you bought directly from them, regardless of how new a product is.

You got it! I work for Apple! Just got home from dinner with Steve Jobs actually.

Actually, I don’t. I have little to no affiliations with them, besides being an iPhone developer the most ties I have with Apple is probably the EULA for my iTunes account. I work for BestBuy, specifically in computers and customer service (returning items, not checking people out).

BTW, I got that link that apparently links me with Apple from some odd website.. Not sure of it’s validity though. It’s called www.apple.com Specifically, from here.

Where did I say 'return' again..? I didn't I said Apple technicians would be more willing to comply, and by comply I meant get you a new computer. If your machine is as plagued with problems as you claim, and assuming you have documentation of each returned iMac, then there is no way they would try and fix your current one. They'd just give you a new one.

And tonight, no actually I didn't. I'm a big fan of apple pie though. Tonight I had Vanilla Oreos, along with a Carmel Delite Girl Scout Cookie. Thanks for being interested in my dietary habits though. :)

Lolool.....I will maybe buy it from Apple store, that is what I was willing to do for the next one.....but still am not sure!

No Yellow, nothing? no dead pixels, no noisy hard drive or whistling screen when adjusting brightness?

Go on the Apple logo, top left corner\About this Mac\then in that window, click on the version 10.6.2....it should give you a serial #

My serial number does not start with a "w" and I just got the computer. I want to know what week mine is in.

W8 at the beginning of the serial number just means the machine was built in Shanghai, China. If yours doesn't start with W8 it was just assembled at a different plant.

Pop your serial number into this site and it will give you any detail you can think of regarding your machine's details and when and where it was made.

The 4th and 5th digits of the serial number are the production week. ;)

Mine says Screen size: 21 inch
Memory - number of slots: 4
Factory: QP (USA)
Production year: 2000
Production week: 03 (January)
Production number: 1981 (within this week)

Does this sound right? I just bought mine couple days ago. Why does it say 21 inch, should be 21.5. Production year 2000??

My guess is that the Chipmunk site hasn't updated their software to properly display 2010 yet, since it is the same code as it was for 2000. I wouldn't worry about the 21 either since there is no such beast. :p

Yes, your iMac was assembled in the good old USA in the 3rd week of January and was the 1,981st machine built in that week. No worries!

I am on my 2nd replacement 21.5

All of them have had the yellow tinge one. The last being the worst. It's a week 2.

I just got back from the store, 5th Imac still making lots of noise from the hard drive, every time I load a web page, Thicking sound from hard drive, whistling screen and yellow tint, dead pixell as well.

Why didn't you get them to open it up in store and test it before walking away with it?

They wouln'd let me open the box at the Apple store they said it wasn't possible....Ottawa by the way!

Hiya folks. I got a week 50 iMac 21.5 with a large area of yellow tint on the lower right side of the screen. Luckily I use another IPS monitor to do my image editing. It'll be a pain for me to return the computer as I'm using it in the Caribbean! I'll likely sell it and upgrade to a Mac Pro later this year, or something. Otherwise, it's a very nice computer (3.06 version) and very fast compared to my 17" 1.5GHz G4 Powerbook that I upgraded from. On another note that Powerbook is 6 years old now and it has been flawless for all that time even with heavy use.

Cheers!

I have an idea on the side: Maybe Apple should pass all the iMacs through the refurbishing process for a while? This would likely help with the initial quality.
Just a thought (if case Apple is reading)...

Tom B.

Good idea.... I will return my second iMac.... I just got off the phone with Apple Tech..... went through all the reset procedures (for the book).... Not really looking forward to my next defective iMac.
The yellow tinge on this second one is getting worst and now I get a constant whistling sound coming from the panel when I play with resolution.

Really am not impressed with my move from PC to Mac...
I made the switch for the graphics and photos. I have heard all the hype about Apple being a superior product for graphics and photos.
Now the yellow tinge will make it impossible to calibrate the panel.

Had I done more research before making the move, I would probably still have my PC.

What really P!$$e's me off is the fact that I will have to work on a crappy toshiba laptop with VISTA.

All I am looking for is an iMac that works right out of the box.
