I purposely skipped the first gen model because I wanted one with a front facing camera. Started with the iPad 2 in 2011 and have owned so many variations of it since then I've lost count. When I got fed up with Intel Macs, I also used iPad Pro as my main personal computer for several years with a Mac only in the mix from my job. Apple Silicon being the game changer that it is, I'm now back to the iPad being an "also" not an "only", but I am loving my mini 6 with the Apple Pencil. There are just so many things this device does well, even though it still has some shortcomings to be ironed out.

I had the original iPad and am now on my 6th, the 2018 11" iPad Pro.

While I use the iPad almost every day, I've resigned to the fact that I simply don't enjoy using it for anything that resembles work. iPadOS's file management and multi tasking solutions just don't work for me.

For content consumption, the iPad is a great device and I've long relegated it to serve that exact purpose. This is why I've never been tempted to upgrade to a newer Pro as there is simply no need. A Mini however remains an intriguing proposition because I imagine it would be an even better content consumption device, especially for reading.

Long but short history for me. I've started with the 1st gen iPad Mini in 2012, launch day, it was a bit underpowered even at launch time (was 1-yo hardware already) but served pretty well my needs. In 2017 realised that I needed something bigger so I've sold the mini and bought a sealed 2016's iPad Pro 9.7, which is still my current iPad. Unfortunately the iPad is showing its age so I plan to update to the OLEDs expected next year. (12.9/13")

I have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro too! Showing its age in what way? How’s your experience with it?

Down south
I got the very first one, and have had most releases, minus a couple versions of the mini, and the 9.7 and 10.5 pros. most recently I did downgrade and upgrade lol - from a 12.9 pro/mini 6 combo to a 5th gen Air. I went back to having a iMac, and wanted a more versatile size iPad for travel.

I use my iPad every, single day.

Ive had most versions thoughout the years, and i got to say the Mini's and the Pros are my alltime favorite. The latest pros (with the m2 chip) i use with the magic keyboard as a laptop as i feel i get more hardware functionality out of them for the price compared to a macbook. (I am currently rocking the m2 11 inch pro 256 gig wifi version and i love it. I thought it would be too small at first, and i did not want to go with the 12 inch as the micro LED screen still has too much blooming for my tastes and to me was noticeable when watching space shows like Star Trek)

Ive played around with the Mini 6 over the past few years but i always resisted because this year i got the Iphone 14 pro max. I love my iphone, dont get me wrong, but i always wanted a foldable phone that was both phone and tablet, and i saved up and got me a Samsung Galaxy fold 4 on sale, and i loved the IDEA of it, but loathed Android so i returned it and exhanged it for a 256 cellular Ipad Mini 6 which should be ariving today.

Its a shame apple does not make a foldable as i think that would be a dream device but ill just use the Ipad mini 6 in the meantime as it could still be years before they finally put out a foldable.

My dream ipad would likely be the mini with an 120hz OLED Screen and Face ID (or at least an under screen finger print sensor but id prefer face ID

I believe the mini is the perfect tablet, where as once you go around 11 inches or bigger, your into laptop terratory. Back in 2010 (god its been that long?) the Ipad was basically a giant Ipod touch, and that was fine, i have such fond memories of those times, but its still one of these devices that to me is a Jack of all trades, master of none.

The pros, espically with the M chips, should be outright hybrid laptop tablet machines WITH THE OPTION TO RUN macOS or IpadOS.

I still think apple could put out one hell of a touch screen iMac desktop like the Microsoft Surface that would be both ipad and Desktop depending on what you needed it for, and the Ipad pros should follow suit. They are big enough to be laptops as is and i feel i get more use out of them that way.

As for the Mini and the Iphone, blend the two into a foldable device with a apple pencil. That be a dream device, give me a even normal sized non plus Iphone that opens into a ipad mini, and im in heaven. I want that even more then the Apple Reality Pro (which i doubt ill get at launch)

The only pad I’ve ever had and still my current iPad is the iPad Air 4.

I got it for work and after a while for some reason I stopped using it for notes daily. ( something about pen and paper for not taking just fits better for me)

Fast forward to the past month or two I’ve picked it back up and started using it daily… but not for notes. It is now my productivity and time management device. Widgets have become my best friend for that aspect as well. I also have been using it more for YouTube and forums because it’s much easier and seems like a better platform than my iPhone.

I plan on getting a 11” iPad Pro next year with the Smart keyboard case and I can only imagine how that’s going to be. I know it will not replace a laptop but I have one of those from my work so I don’t need a personal one for what I do.

I remember when the original iPad was revealed, knowing that I wanted one but not being sure what I’d use it for. By the time the iPad 2 was announced, I’d done my research and was ready to purchase it on launch day.

It was a magical device; my favourite piece of tech. I would sell my existing versions prior to the announcement of new ones so that I could upgrade as soon as possible.

In recent years, the iPad has been less important to me and I’ve gone without one for periods of time. The main reason for that is probably what I’d call app regression. A couple of my favourite, and most used apps, disappeared. One was taken over by a competitor, and supposedly integrated into their product, but the experience was inferior. The other was withdrawn, presumably because app support was no longer economically viable. Finding replacements proved difficult.

In the early days of the iPad, we saw a lot of innovative apps. I feel like some of that has now been lost, but that might just be a me thing.

I've returned to the iPad recently, after going without one for nearly a year. I am using it regularly, but I don’t think I’m getting as much out of it as I used to. It’s always been about the apps for me.
