Thanks for reporting this.

When you are using 69xt+cac1085, can you get 4k60hz 10bit 444 or just 8bit 444 or 10bit 420 (which can also be supported by hdmi version 2.0)?
You can do either HDR / SDR 10-bit YCbCr420 or SDR 8-bit RGB with the EDID patch for RGB on any version of macOS.

Hi @joevt , I was confused about the extra power port on CAC-1085. Why it is required compared with other adapters using the same chip. And if CAC-1085 is the best choice on the market now. Thanks.
The USB power input is required as the CAC-1085 uses a full-size DisplayPort connector and not USB-C. If your GPU has USB-C you can get a USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode model instead. The CAC-1085 is unreliable on PC and requires frequent power cycling when the resolution changes etc. The Cable Matters USB-C model is far more reliable on my MBP, but I haven't tested it with Windows and frequent resolution changes.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually, I was confused about other brands' "active" full-size dp 1.4 to hdmi 2.1 adapters that seem to have NOT an extra power input. And it seems some of them use the same chip (RTD2173), which hints that an extra power supply is not necessary for such a chip. So, I was wondering if an external power input can bring better performance, stability, etc.

And I found that although there are many RTD2173 products on the market, CAC-1085 seems to be the most expensive and the most discussed.

What other DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 adapters exist that use the RTD2173 and don't have a power input?

The CAC-1586 is a USB-C version which doesn't require USB power because it can get that from the USB-C port.

E.g., UGREEN

I didn't find any English page, but the two promotional pages above explicitly point out the use of the RTD2173, and the adapter does not have an additional power supply interface.

One of the pictures shows 2 cables on the input side.

I have that exact UGREEN model but without the 2nd cable / plug. With a known good HDMI 2.1 cable connecting to an LG CX OLED 55", I couldn't get 4k120p to kick in with M1 Air.
