I don't think that means anything at all though. It could be a 16 core tower in the same form factor.

Plausible.

It could be a 32 core tower.

About as plausible the new Mac Pro will be based on alien Vorlon technology.

There is no way to hit the current Mac Pro prices with E5 4600 or E7 technology. It is extremely likely that the Mac Pro prices aren't going to radically change. Apple hasn't done that in .... well since they started making significant money again.

I think there is good chance Apple will make the new MIC offerings from Intel that will arrive in 2013 work with the new Mac Pro but I don't think that is what you are talking about above.

It could be an upgraded Mac Mini.

Right up there with the Vorlon tech above.

I would bet heavy against a cloud service.

Cloud? Hey maybe if use Vorlon tech. LOL.

Apple isn't spending all this time moving people to SDDs and high bandwidth memory, along with extremely resource heavy new versions of pro apps,

Eh? FCPX runs on a MBA. The projects that are easier to do can scale up with the increased hardware in a Mac Pro. But Apple is absolutely not making Pro only run on Mac Pros. That would be a seriously dubious move for Apple or anyone else who sold "Pro" apps. The Mac market is way too small to be skimming off sub-sub-sub-niche markets for anything that isn't stratospherically priced. Strato priced software is in its own death spiral.

I don't think that will happen. There will still be iMacs at the normal price points. Apple sells about 1.2 million desktops a year and most of those are iMacs. They are not going to kill that revenue stream.

I just told Siri to remind me to check apple.com/store for signs of a new pro desktop on every second Tuseday of the month starting in June 2013. Will link to this post as soon as something is announced. I ain't scared.

The iMac will get refreshed before October, but that's as far as Apple will take the line. The new MacBook Pros are every bit as capable as the iMacs, and I see no reason why Apple wouldn't just pull the plug on the latter. Apple won't lose sales, trust me -- the people who would have bought iMacs will buy retina MBPs instead. The people who today are undecided between a loaded iMac and a Mac Pro will go with the New Mac Pro/iMac Pro/iTV Plus. The rest of us will grumble and curse the ghost of Steve Jobs, but ultimately we too will resign ourselves to the inevitable fate.

I don't know, but it irritates me a little, but going beyond about my feelings,
i see that we have thunderbolt displays that you cannot use with current Mac pro,we have old 2011 Imacs not updated....so maybe next year Apple is trying
to make buy ,cleaning stocks, the today 2011 Imacs..to be used with the ,hopefully, next Mac-Thunderbolt-Pro,or some iper-steroided mac mini.
Think also that next year is rumored to land the next generation consoles, while actually you cannot use the current(consoles) with the thundebolt displays we have.
I know this last is not related to Pro discussions ,i agree but what if you put in the equation the ITv some are rumoring?
2013 MacPRO with thunderbolt+Itv....---->no need for Mac mini,Imacs and Mac pro?Just one line of Pro-scalable hopefully Macs and one line of Thunderbolt displays? This could explain why Apple blocks consoles to work with their TB displays..because Apple is working on Cracking All ..because maybe really Jobs has really cracked has he said.
Just a thougt.
