I realize this thread is old, but I doubt Tim Cook has the time to examine his personal iPhone excessively for defects. That being said, if there was one that he noticed you bet an assistant would immediately fetch him a new one and set it up ASAP. My guess is that rich men like him think about yachts and building vacation homes on private islands in their spare time.

I would want Steve Jobs’ cherry picked devices

But judging by the way Cook’s been rolling, he probably has the worst panel lottery/build units, or just average units, and doesn’t even know or care

Attention to detail is a fictitious concept for a bean counter (imo)

Now Johnny Ive? I’m sure he has to have his cherry picked off the assembly line of hundreds of units, to get the right one. If he doesn’t feel like using his own handcrafted prototypes out and about. He probably flies out to China just before every product release to make it right for his collection

Honestly I'm pretty sure Tim Cook doesn't care about how amazing his iPhone X is. Before the iPhone X came out it was in development for 5 years so that means even when the iPhone 5s or 6 was released apple was worried about the development of the iPhone X. Tim cook is probably more worried about the prototype of the next iPhone and getting his hands on that.

why I think my theory is right? He doesn't use a case... If Tim cook really cared about the perfectly crafted iPhone he would probably use a case, but considering how he doesn't, he honestly doesn't give a care in the world.

I'm sure all the executives (Including Leads and Engineers) for support teams are given multiple units to demo and experience firsthand both hardware/software long before the iPhone is even launched just to provide feedback what needs to be rectified or improved. Apple is huge in detail And making the best product possible, which it's crucial to Beta test devices long before they are available to the masses.
