Time to shame app developers that haven’t updated their icons to go dark or tint.

Alright folks. iOS 18 has been out for 3 days, but app developers have had much more time to get their icons in order. Let’s use this thread to shame them in hopes that maybe….just maybe they read this thread and it lights a fire. Or we just shame them for fun.

I’ll start:

Amazon - seriously? Of all the apps, you can’t get your crap together?

Reddit - are you even trying at this point?

PS. This thread is more for fun purposes and tracking. Just before anyone gets mad (which I’ve seen happen here from time to time).
 
Hey Yahoo Fantasy, you’ve made a lot of nice changes this year, why won’t your icon change when I set my phone to dark mode?

In Germany:
-BVG - Berlin´s public transport. It is Berlin, what do you expect?
-Tagesschau: main public broadcast. No surprise.

Going to add these widgets that don't tint properly.....

-google news widget
-pocket casts widget(although I love pocket casts so I don't want to diss them, but I'd like their widget to be updated)
 
I don't care about the color, but since IOS 18 on the iPad, Overcast will suddenly stop playing and reset the slider back to the front. requiring a restart and figuring out where you stopped. It isn't intermittent - happens on every podcast within five to twenty minutes. Had to go back to Podcasts to continue my listening to the huge Bletchley Park 'casts.

It could be an auto-generated one. iOS will auto-generate a dark icon if it's fairly basic and has good contrast. If it's an official one provided by the developer, a dark icon is much easier and quicker to create than implementing dark mode. Hopefully we do see developers get on board with dark icons even if they don't do dark mode.

I'm gonna add Apple's own apps to this list:
- Apple Store: (it's dark on my iPhone, but light on my iPad; small icon in Settings is also light on both devices)
- Clips: (interestingly the small icon found in Settings is dark, but the app icon on the Home Screen is still light)
 
I don’t want all apps to have a dark icon because not all of them need it. The apps that really needed it were the old bland mostly flat and white icons like espn who haven’t updated them since iOS 7. The google apps all look much better with the black background, but I wouldn’t want my games, weather apps, or any of the others with nice colorful designs to just become black background with a little glyph.

Ha, I ended up making my own with a shortcut. Only downside is that it won't show badges.

Btw, Snapchat already has some dark icons, but you need to be a Snapchat+ subscriber to change it...so who knows if they'll ever give us a dark icon for free. I feel like they'll be dragging their feet and hoping to capture some more subscribers from those that want to make the icon fit in better now.

I don’t get the Shazam app. Its dark mode icon still keeps the blue logo, but when the app is in dark mode, it has a better looking grayscale splash screen.

I just don’t understand what happened to their icon. Since iOS 18, my UPS app icon looks like garbage.

Reddit has changed! Biggest eye sores that remain are Yahoo Fantasy and Amazon. I get why some games won’t switch.
 
Only app on my first page that doesn’t have a dark icon is Pokemon Go, but I don’t expect them to make one for it since they change the background of the icon every 3 months for each new game season.
