Well, just as the title states, looks like I lost my iPad Air 2, which was carriered via Sprint. It absolutely sucks.

I was at a store around 5:30pm last night, and my son was using it in the backseat. Nothing out of the norm. It was at about 30% charged. We went in the store, car was locked. We came out, he stated he used the iPad on the way home, and then brought it in the house. He is 6 so be gentle! HAHA. I noticed around 8:30pm it was missing.

In any case, Find My iPhone has it as listed as OFFLINE, and shows nothing for a last known spot. I guess I didnt have the feature active on the iPad, but if it was a default thing, it was definitely on. Looks like I am screwed there. I obviously though perhaps it was stolen, but its password protected, as well as fingerprinted, and its been offline since I checked at 8:30pm over 24 hours ago. Some moron would have tried to check it out by now Id assume.

So, we tore up the house, the car, everything we could think of. Called the store, went to the store and looked around. Nothing... (insert 4 letter word here of your choosing).

Looks like I either be picking up a new iPad 9.7 or 9.7 Pro. I guess Ill go for the Pro seeing I am in the market for one again. UGH. I had just paid Sprint off too. BLAH!!!

Sorry for your loss. I am guessing find my device is not active by default due to privacy concerns. Had a MacBook Air stolen from a rental car and did not have find my device active. Just as well because had I have found him I would have done harm to the thief and then I would have been the bad guy.

I had the find my device app active, but there is a toggle that will also show the last known location too, so if the device is off, or whatever, it'll show a grey dot, instead of a green. I guess this wasnt on as it doesnt show anything.

Im going to stop by the store I was at one more time and hope for the best in the morning. Then its straight to get a new iPad Pro 9.7 if its gone. I am a Web Developer who uses an iPad/iCloud like a briefcase pretty much so its a must have.

Good luck. Homeowners insurance covered my loss. If you have insurance you may be covered.

Now I really want to know the ending to what happened to the iPad.

Anyways, I would still file a lost/stolen property item with your local law-enforcement. If you have any information on the iPad, such as the serial number. They have the ability to at least perform serial number checks for local pawn shops and see if it was Pawned off somewhere. (Pawn shops are required by law to report any incoming property to a data base for law enforcement access.) But It's rare if they can locate it and it's dependent if your local law enforcement will be proactive enough as well. But its still a precaution and you never know.

I actually still have the box it came in! Im a hoarder. LMAO! You're absolutely right though, I am definitely going to file a "stolen" report and state it was stolen either from the store I was at, or out of my driveway, which you never know. Still baffled to why it would be off still though if it was stolen. Makes zero sense as some idiot would have to turn it on to show it to sell it or whatever, ya know? I know they have tools to wipe iPads and iPhones, and sell them over seas and such but I live in a small town in Rhode Island. Not much of that goes on here.

I have a feeling it fell out the car at the store, and it was raining so it got fried. Only thing that makes sense but I too am fiending for an answer to where it is!

The other reason why I would file a police report, is perhaps somebody may have found it and turned it in to your local law-enforcement for found property. You never know, maybe your local law-enforcement has it in their possession for lost property.

I certainly wish you luck and I hope it turns out for the best for you. If you have any updates or any other questions, feel free to ask. Let us know if you find it.

You're very right. You ever know! I'll shoot them a call in the morning as well.

The iPad will be listed as offline, even if find my iPad is turned on, if it is not connected to wifi or cellular. This will occur if it's flat. So, if your son did bring the iPad inside and didn't charge it, then it would be offline regardless of whether find my iPad was enabled.
If you use an iPhone or iCloud.com to log in to find my iPhone/iPad, then I believe you should only see the iPad listed if it was enabled, I'm not certain, but I think that's the case.
If the iPad still had find my iPad enabled then no one can set it up as their own device, they need your iCloud password to log you out first.
Hopefully you find it. I have kids too and they are always misplacing their iPads. I open find my iPhone regularly and send a sound to their iPad. A good place to check would also be in or under your son's bed, but sounds like you've looked everywhere already.

This. Our iPads like to hide in the sofa cushions. :)

This is why I never disable LTE on my iPads and iPhones. With WiFi-only, it drops internet every once in a while for power savings.

Ugh! Sorry to hear you lost it--iPads are expensive little toys.

If you are going to buy one again, I think you should hold off for a few more weeks as a new model is rumored to be announced at WWDC on June 5th. Even if you don't decide to go with the new model, it's more likely you find a good deal on the current model afterward.

The iPad in question is hooked to sprint, and wifi, so it would be listed in Find my IPhone app. I use it all the time as I even misplace it in my office or whatever. I'm not a newbie to losing stuff HAHA!

It makes no sense why it has shown as "offline" since I checked for it almost 48 hours ago. Seeing it's closed and flat, that's never made a difference in the past. The app has always found it."

Thanks for all your input though friends! I hope it turns up soon!

Your iPad is likely leaving the country. Keep it list in find my phone, it could be months but it will show up again.

I live in a small tourist town in Rhode Island, so its definitely a possibility! Ya never know though! I am for sure leaving in the Find My iPhone. I ave a feeling its in my house, battery dead, and hidden somewhere oddly.

Dead battery is a pain. I've had a backup iPhone stuck between my bed and the headboard that I couldn't find for ages.

Yea, something lets me its in my house... just hidden extremely well. Once its found, hopefully, it'll be like a new present! LOL.

You have no idea where kids of that age can hide things. And it's not on purpose, it's a different height, different point of view, different way of thinking that brings them to that.
My son (5yo) had found my hammer, small tiny hammer, just right for his hands. I use it for delicate jobs, small nails, not that often, but it's really handy at times. I saw it was missing from the tool-case instantly, but where was it? I hadn't used it, it wasn't near the tool-case, nowhere!
On with the job, no time to loose, those drainage pipes aren't going to fix themselves. A few days after fixing the drainage, they where blocked. $%^&*()(*&^%! How can it be, I did a good job. No choice just to dig them up again.
Upside is that I found a dirty, bit rusty hammer again...

The moral of this story, get on your knees and see where your kid was looking at :D

Oh, and never had I such a good reason to buy a new ipad....
Even my wife wouldn't blame me for that.

I'm the father of two boys, 13 and 6. I also raised my nephews who are 21 and 16. Trust me in this one... I know all about where kids hide things.

I've looked just about everywhere so I'm done. I'm not sure about you all but it seems when something is missing and I fixate and look hard, I never find it. Soon as I quit looking... there it is!

I hate when this happens though! UGH!!!

It's too bad that you can't enable an option to require a passcode to power down the device. That would at least give you some more time to locate it if a thief was savvy enough to open it up and disconnect the battery cable. It's probably some kind of fail safe in case the software locks up. But then again, a thief could always place it in a faraday cage until they get to a hardened location. It just makes it harder on the thieves, and most thieves are idiots, so they won't do these things.

Oh, absolutely. The most annoying thing is the missing item shows up in a place that you already searched in the first place.

I bet your son put it someplace squirrely, especially if he says he was playing with it in the car. My 9YO son lost his wallet the other day and finally after hours (literally) of me searching the car, his bedroom and the obvious parts of the basement (toy room), my husband came home and found it in like 20 minutes in my son's Erector Set case (which he had likely been using a briefcase or something). I just hadn't gotten that far in my basement exploration, so he found it before me.

I once lost a favorite bracelet for over four years, and then found it in a purse I had searched no less than 10 times in the intervening time period. Stuff is weird.

Hope it all works out for you.
