I cant believe that they stopped selling the Mac Pros in the EMEA markets. This is bad. The new one cant be far off now. They really need to get one out into the marketplace ASAP. People are switching to PC for video production, etc.

Hi,

I switched to PC workstations 2 years ago. I use them primarily for music production, they are custom made PC-Workstations, and are not cheap ! (I'm Using Cubase 7). Was using LP9 on the Mac Pro, but that's history now, and I'm very happy with my transition to PC-Workstations, and Cubase 7. Apple is far behind at this point, and they are still not done with LPX. I wonder what's taking them so long to release LPX ? I hope they don't blame that on Intel

My good old Mac Pro (2006) 3.0 Ghz, 8-core is still running nicely, currently stuck with OSX Lion on this machine, since Apple does not support the higher OSX versions for it.

I use my MacPro for Web surfing, emails, some graphic design, ...etc. but nothing serious.

I still have a bit of hope and optimism that Apple will delight us with the next generation of Mac Pros one of these days, hopefully this year. I can't imagine shelling out $$$$ for any of the current Mac Pro models, given a new generation of Mac Pros is coming our way.

The big question is : WHEN will they show up ?

Cheers,

Good buyers market

What all this means is its going to be a buyers market for a really solid machine that's been around for 8 years, and is the mainstay of many pro studios. Who knows what Apple is cooking up for some fantasy prosumer market but what everyone is missing here is these towers are great the way they are!

I believe he's implying that if Apple released or announced a MP6,1 based on available components (ie "right now") it wouldn't be faster than the 5,1 and therefore there would be no demand for it. This is of course entirely untrue but I believe that's what he meant.
yeah, Apple has backslid on specs several times now. For instance I believe the current rMBP are actually a bit slower than the ones they had out about 6 months ago due to the difference in cpu cache.
Specs never got in the way of Apples road map.

I went the opposite way. I spent years using Sonar and Cubase for electronic music production on PCs. Kind of frustrating in that no matter how many resources you throw at the audio, it still takes a fair amount of tweaking to get glitch free operation.
I switched to Logic using a Mac mini with external hard drives and firewire audio interface and it runs smooth as hell, even recording 16 tracks while playing 16 tracks.
In fact I'd say a current Mac Pro is almost overkill for music production unless you ae using huge sample libraries, syncing to video, or using multiple PT cards. Do people still build those outlandish PT systems with all the cards? Been years since I seen one of those rigs.
