Pvr

i was really hoping for an intel mac mini. now i'm considering the new imac 17". i actually had about $1100 to spend on a mac mini (with money left over), but the imac is tempting. when do you think a new mac mini will be out? will it really be a pvr? that's what i really wanted. what do you think? go for the imac?

The iMac would be a lot better than the Mac Mini when they do release it. They might put some kind of PVR functionality. I am an avid blogger and think it would be in Apple's best interest to release a Mac Mini with some kind of PVR software. Although, you have to look at what your priorities are. Do you want a computer more? Or a PVR? Also, will you be using any pro apps? i.e. Photoshop, Aperture, Final Cut.

do you think with the move to intel, that macs will be able to catch viruses?

No. No way. Macs are built off of Unix. Unix is very stable and almost "immune" to malware. You don't have to worry about any of that.

basically, someone answer this question: is now a good time to buy an intel imac 17", or do you think they will release something soon that will blow the socks off of it? by soon i mean 6 months, and around the same price (maybe a few hundred more - tops)?

The only thing they might release sometime later this year is the Powermac. It would probably be out of your (and mine) price range. They will be super fast, but cost a around three grand.

i think i'm going to get the 17" imac. if they do release mighty mac mini or whatever, i can always get it later if it's so great (like blu-ray or whatever).

i'll just see how the new imac looks and performs. if i'm impressed, i'll get it.

well i just got back from the apple store and they were sold out. i think i'm just going to order online, that way i don't have to keep going to the store (it's a hassle here in Atlanta). i think i'm going to order it tonight. any last words?

well i ordered it last night, and it's supposed to ship tomorrow, but hopefully before the end of the day.
