To the OP, Welcome to the forum! Keep asking your questions and ignore those who like to feel important by slamming other posters. You will eventually get some real help because there are a whole lot of helpful and friendly people here too.

BTW, I'd wait and avoid the hassle of having to sell the phone on ebay. The new phone will likely have significant improvents in software and aesthetics.
Just my 2 cents.:D

Thanks all, I am leaning towards waiting for the new iPhone.

The thing is once its released, the crazy rush to stand in line and get the new iPhone is a turn off. Also new phone will be buggy, not just software bugs which can be updated, but hardware bugs are ones that usually worry me.

Wow, thanks for the replies guys. I thought I was on the right forum to ask this question because its MacRumours and members here might know better than what I know about the newer iPhone.

I dont need advice on marriage, relationships or jobs etc, I am a grown up and can handle life just as well if not better than anyone who has an iPhone on this forum. And I did a search to look for threads and couldnt find the one, may be I could have searched a little harder. But still, thanks for your invaluable insights, you have been very helpful.

BTW thanks for the warm welcome.

Thanks bytethese.

Forgive all the dicks on this forum, they can be some real ******s sometimes. Whatever happened to treating others with respect right?? People are always wanting to take jabs at others on here, I suppose that some are like this since they do not have the balls to act like that in their personal or professional lives. Most of them probably get walked over by everyone in real life so they feel like they have to make up for it on these forums. If you don't like someone's post than don't waste your precious time commenting.

Anyways, If you have the $$ to spend go on and buy now. You can always sell your Iphone 3g on ebay (which is a very EASY thing to do) and get some of your $$ back should a new one come out in June/July.

A couple of things to consider about the new iPhone:

1. Unlike the first gen to second gen, there won't be any great cellular update. 3G is here for a while and if LTE ever does see the light of day the later iPhones will be updated to support that. This was the compelling reason for me to wait for the second gen. Now maybe they'll make it more efficient, but I'm not really disappointed with my battery run time.

2. So that leaves you with the icing on the cake. I'm talking about maybe a better camera. Rumor has it that higher resolution screen may be there. And the odds of some sort of multi-core machine are remote. Apple is not one to make dramatic changes from one gen to the next (baring PowerPC to intel). There's also stereo over bluetooth as well although this could be a software/firmware upgrade. Maybe thinner, maybe longer running, maybe/probably 32G.

I don't think I'd even count cut/paste and MMS cause that's a software issue which is partly addressed in jailbroken phones.

If ALL those hardware changes are there, I may go from 2nd gen to 3rd gen, otherwise it's a waste.

Amro

p.s. Those nasty guys are soooo funny to read because you know they have a pathetic life and they have nothing better to do. While you're reading their response just picture them in the basement of their mother's house wearing a bathrobe, poping a zit and picking their nose.

I just wanted to report back and update. Thanks for all the help that I received. I waited and got the iPhone from AT&T on June 19th, the day of the release of the 3GS. I am glad that I waited and am very happy with the iPhone.

:)

I am exploring it and am in love with the apps.

I'll wait for the next one, hopefully dual core, background apps, and much more.

Well, if they repeat what they did this summer for the 3GS, you'll be able
to buy the new one next summer at the subsidized price and sell your old one for enough to cover most of the cost for the new one. That's what I plan to do.

And off the thread subject-BUY Apple stock in here around $170-it will be in the mid $200's (at least) by this time next year imo.
