I don't think I will wait for Lion. However, I would like to wait for the back to school promotion so I can get a free ipod with my purchase alongside my education discount!

I had no idea that Snow Leopard was released nearly 2 years ago. This will be my first iMac purchase and I'm not sure if it is worth waiting a few more months for Lion to become pre-installed or if I should go ahead and purchase the refresh as soon as it comes out?

The way I see it, since I'll be experiencing OSX for the first time, Snow Leopard should have everything I need and it will take me months to learn it. But 2 years seems like a long time for an OS release. It only makes me wonder if major features will be added.

To those buying the 2011 refresh, the wait has been painful. Are you going to sacrifice waiting a few more months for Lion? Or will you essentially pay $129 to have the iMac early knowing full well you will purchase Lion when it comes out?

Hey I am in the same boat as you. I will be buying my first imac this summer .. and I will only buy it when imac ships with lion preinstalled ... although it means waiting for a few extra months, I think its better to do that ... its not about having to shell out extra money on the upgrade .. just about convinience .. also whatever software bugs/issues arise in the lion would have been solved by the time imac ships with lion .. so thats what i am doing .. remember the fruit of patience is always sweet.

Lion's nice... but it isn't really going to help much with my frame rate in Crysis, or games in general. I'm more interested in the hardware :p

huh? lol, when imac ships with lion it will have bugs, alot of bugs, they will fix the bugs in lion after lion is released.

Now if u buy an imac with lion preinstalled a few month AFTER lion has been released then u will have lion with fixed bugs, but if u buy the imac when apple starts to include lion with it then it will still have the same bugs as all of us who will have lion who bought an imac earlier than u.

Depends on when the iMac is being released.
If it's this month, I buy it immediately! Have been waiting for so long.

If it's May, I'll wait untill the WWDC to hear more about Lion and the 'back to school' promotion. Lion or not, I won't be waiting any longer then the WWDC.

So...
Here comes one big question that we should ask to apple's keynote speaker on wwdc (hopefully steve jobs himself) about osx LION

"Can it run Crysis?"

Not waiting for lion, besides there are some programs that will have issues with lion, I'll wait for the software to catch up with patches. I still have a printer that doesn't work.

Being an iMac virgin I will wait for Lion preinstalled in the 27" iMac. So that I get used to one OS rather than have to kearn Snow Leopard then few months later adjust to the changes in Lion. Also holding out for the back to school promotions help.

I've seen many mentions about people worrying about being earlier adopters of Lion. In a workplace setting, I certainly could understand these worries, but for personal use, have early OS bugs really been so devastating? Also, published fixes are fast and furious ...

I wanted (but didn't need) to get a new desktop late last year. After waiting for the iMac refresh and the new OS, I certainly won't wait any longer for bug fixes that likely will be addressed in a matter of weeks after purchase. If you look for it, there always will be another reason to wait ... I'll wait to future-proof my purchase and save $130 or so, but I won't wait simply to avoid possible inconvenience, esp. since waiting in and of itself has become an inconvenience.

That said, I might use only my wife's laptop or iPad to conduct any financial transactions online during the first 6 weeks or so after Lion's release just to be sure there are no glitches with online security, but I'll have my old machine as a standby if early Lion problems prove disastrous ...

It's killing me to wait for the hardware refresh. No way I'll also be able to wait out the new OS.

Once the new iMac's are out I'm buying.

+1. Same here. My white 2007 24" iMac has been beach-balling like crazy and I've got less than 20GB of space remaining. Now that I've started filming weddings and shooting indie films, my current iMac is barely capable of doing any serious video-editing whatsoever. This release needs to happen fast.

I'm upgrading as soon as the new iMac's are announced. I actually prefer to buy the OS upgrade since you get the actual retail disk, so it's not a big deal to me if Lion ships afterwards.

I just hope Amazon starts to carry them soon after Apple announces it. I'd love to wait to get a free iPod Touch, but saving 200+ in taxes is way more tempting.

I don't understand why it is so hard to get used to an OS.
