yep the guy is working for Verizon

with customers walking into a Verizon store the guy is trying to pay his bills and or feed his family. people should be smart enough to do there own research and not depend on the honesty of a salesperson and or a forum such as this. I tried and used about 4 phones before settling on the Iphone!

I can't believe the nerve of that employee.

I would have made an ass of myself too. Throw caution to the wind! When people are wrong they need to be told, no matter the circumstances.
/sarcasm

Although I don't think this quite applies to the situation I felt it relevant to post:

Having been in sales and marketing for years, I can relate that there is a right way to sell and a wrong way. Putting down competition is generally the wrong way.

Marketing is becoming meaner no doubt about it, a look at the commercials confirms this. The sales people parrot what the marketing says.

If the customer honestly asked "how does this phone compare with the iPhone?" the sales person could still have focused on the positives;

1. You get Android 2.0 and Android is likely going to be hot
2. You get a physical keyboard
3. Excellent screen
5. Great integration with cloud applications from Google and others.
6. Access to the Amazon music store
7. Downloading applications directly through the developer's site instead of having to be dependent on iTunes etc.
8. A network that gives you coverage out in the middle of nowhere.
9. Real turn by turn NAV from Google that is not yet on the iPhone

They are not that compelling of an argument yet, but an argument could still be made.

I am not sure why I opened this thread...

back to misfit toy island with my iPhone I go!

Speaking of of misfit toys, I saw a Verizon commercial portraying the iphone as a misfit toy. Now that is really stretching it.:D

If you listen to the words, they actually praise the iPhone itself.

"What are you doing here? You can download apps and browse the web!"

"Yeah, people will LOVE you!"

(picture of ATT 3G coverage pops up over its head)

"Ohhhhhh"

Amazing

Wow.. This is the stupidest post I've EVER read... The employee was only doing his job and you go all spaz-tastic on him. You seem like a jerk, go ahead you fit right in with all the other ******s who think the iphone is the best phone in the world, and thing your better then everyone else.

I don't see the point in this tread!

Oh, well I must have been confused when I saw the ad where Verizon stated the iPhone was a "princess" phone.

Stop defending Verizon all the time. It's old. Just because Verizon takes a shot or two at Apple doesn't make them bad guys. Are you being paid to tow the company line?

I think the original poster was just in Verizon looking for a fight... if they "loved" the iphone so much why get a droid? The OP is just a Troll

I resent people saying he was only doing his job. An employee should never lie to a customer to get a sale, or even give an opinion influenced by which company he is representing. If he wants to say that the Droid beats the iphone, he needs to use factual statements. If he says Verizon has better 3G coverage, thats OK because its a fact. If he says the Droid has more apps, thats a lie...

For those questioning why he didn't buy the Droid only because of the salesperson, this is marketing 101. To a customer the employee assisting him represents all of the company, if the employee rude, then the customer will perceive the company as being rude, and so forth. So it is completely understandable that he didn't buy the Droid just because that specific salesperson was dishonest.
Have you ever met a truthful car sales person?

I agree with this. If he lost a commission, it's because he was dishonest, not because the OP did anything wrong.

How was he (the salesman) dishonest?

He said;

""The Droid is faster than the iPhone"

It is.. Granted, it's a very minimal difference that probably isn't even noticeable, but that's NOT a lie..

"more unique, better apps"

Those are opinions.. Whether we disagree with those opinions or not is irrelevant- they're the salesman's opinions and he's entitled to them..

OP, I'm sure you're a real nice person, but that was a really obnoxious thing to do and you acted like a real creep in this situation.. More and more often nowadays people just can't mind their own business... Sounds like you went in there looking to pick a fight and it's that kind of stuff that fuels the perception many people have of mac fanboys that see themselves as elitists.. Sorry, but if this really happened as you say it did it appears you where a bit out of line in someone else's place of business

Android central says "iphone 3GS beat the heck out of the droid in the above [browser] test" (lots of other sites confirm)

iphone processor is a cortex A8 at 600 mhz, droid's is the same at 550 mhz

And since I've never seen any tests showing the droid is faster at browsing or anything else, yes, I would say it is a lie to call it faster.

i've heard apple store employees give out weak/bad info before. they're human, and may not know everything. i've never chipped in out of respect for the employee.

por exemplo.

q: i have an external hardrive. it has usb, sata, and firewire connections. do i hook up all of them or which one?

a: just use usb, there isn't much difference.

(reality, fire400 is better than usb 2.0. and if it was fire800, holy hot damn better. and i'm sure the lady would like to keep open some usb ports on her macbook)

q: does the ipod touch 8gig have voiceover?
a: it should.
q: playing with the 32 gig ipod touch. does the touch have a mic built in. for voice over and such.
a: yeah. (after trying to get it to work and to no sucess because there is no mic built in) he says to me (**** you not). thats ****ing lame, it should. (i don't think that guy is going to work there very long)

q: how do i hook my mac mini to my tv (via hdmi)
a: a frankenstein of cords that will cost about 60-70 dollars (and he did tell me to use a couple of non mac parts)

(correct answer, via amazon i spent 15 bucks)

q: my iphone has a non-responsive home button. its under warranty. replace it.
a: water sensor went off. you're sol.
a: but, sell it on ebay for 200 or 250. and you can buy a replacement for 200. and let me open it up and see if i can the button working.

(this happened to me and yes. that was the correct answer all the way through)

I will correct out and out lies. i,e, the Droid can make breakfast for you without you moving a muscle. But the guy was doing his job. Do you want to know how many Apple employees lie to make a sale? A lot more than you think and they don't get commission. Some things Verizon does is childish and so are some things Apple does. You have to learn to make informed decisions of your own mind. By the way if the I'm a Mac, I'm a PC ads want to be correct they should be I'm a PC running Mac OSX, I'm a PC running Windows because guess what, PC=Personal Computer.

It's not like "Hi I'm a rectangle" "And I'm a square" is wrong just because a square is a rectangle.

I doubt the OP ever went into Verizon with the intent of buying a Droid. The fact that he talked the customer into an iPhone because he feels it is a far superior device pretty much rules that possibility out. If you feel the iPhone is better then the Droid then you would not go into a store to purchase one.

There are plenty of facts about the Droid that the Verizon salesperson could have used to sway the customer into a sale. First of all is the superior 3G network, second is the 5 MP camera with a flash, third is a removable battery, forth is a slide out keyboard, fifth is a much better screen. Some may argue those are not advantages, but they are features that make the Droid different then the iPhone.

Personally I think it is rude to go into stores and get into a salespersons face when you have no intent on buying the product. I understand that some may feel it is their personal duty to help Apple Inc. sell more products, but unless you are an Apple employee in an Apple store it is none of your business.

Those people need to get lives.

Today, I walked into the Verizon store with intentions to buy a Motorola Droid to try it out and possibly even keep it. There were 2 employees and 4 different customers (including myself) in the store, so I waited.

As I was standing, I hear this employee telling a customer about the Motorola Droid. The employee was saying things like "The Droid is faster than the iPhone, more unique, better apps"

I told the employee, "Excuse me, how is it faster when all of the speed tests say otherwise? How is it more unique? And the apps? Last I checked 100,000 apps using a simplistic method with easy payment (gift cards can be done) beats 14,000 any day. I had all intentions to buy a Motorola Droid today, but you really know how to turn off a customer." Then I said to the customer, "If you want a real comparison, I'll tell you the pros and cons of each."

Anyways, I took the customer outside and now they are buying a little phone called the iPhone from a company who doesn't need to put down other products in order to sell. ;)

*golf clap* you sound a little fanboi-ish here
