Wow after watching the youtube video linked to in that article, I've really gone off the idea of ordering a new iMac tomorrow! Please tell me the 24" screen is nothing like the 20" one shown in that video, as that is unbearably bad.

Once the display is calibrated properly the issue is not as noticeable. Furthermore, I believe the newer models exhibit less of this behavior. My iMacs are from early October and look much better than the one shown on Youtube although they still show some gradient and the viewing angle is indeed very poor with a big color shift.

Well I didn't order an iMac. I was going to order online during UK sale, but I never bothered. I'll be waiting until Rev B for sure now! Hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later, featuring improvements to the screen and processor speed bumps!

There is no denying that some sites are 'anti-Apple' but that label should not be applied to justified criticism. It is a poor product that can't stand criticism! Justified and balanced criticism usually leads to better products and fairer treatment of users.

This is a very true statement, but unfortunately Tony Celeste of Tom's Hardware usually seems particularly anti-Apple, and the criticism his articles contain often is anything but "balanced." His article "Should You Buy a New Mac Mini, iMac, or Mac Pro," which on the Tom's Hardware main site was advertised as a buyer's guide to help you pick which Mac was right for you, ended with Celeste essentially stating that none of them are right for you, because none are worth buying. Despite his claims to use both Macs and PCs, Celeste often comes off as ferociously anti-Mac as the fiercest PC fanboy.

Looks like Apple has finally noticed some of the complaints on their own forums:

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/12/19/apple_display_update/index.html

Tom's is now reporting they've locked a rather long thread on the topic (not necessarily for nefarious purposes) but they've also been deleting new threads on the same topic! Now, I haven't seen any of these deleted threads (cus they're deleted), pehaps they were blatent trolls and deserved deletion... but you never know with the apple discussion forums

Dito, well said.

I have no qualms whatsoever that Tom and his followers are anti-Mac, that is obvious. However that doesn't hide the problem of the screen issues on both the 20" and 24" iMacs, for a number of owners.
