The Dock for me is where it's at. I saw another dock that cost $25. As long as pricing isn't off the wall, I'll buy this. I don't want to see anything over $75 w/ the app.

this is what pushed me over the edge. i dont think it can be that expensive. id say 30-40 for the software at most. hell i can get a text to speech widescreen garmin or tom tom for 100 so i hope its not anymore than that
Price is going to be high. A map upgrade pushes $100 easily. The major cost in Turn-by-turn Navigation comes from the man hours used to create the Maps. I'd expect about $75 for the software.
The usual pricing for TomTom on smartphones is over US$100.
However, I think one of the reasons Apple announced the addition of monthly subscriptions to the App Store, is for programs like this:
Who would pay $100+ outright? Few. But how many more would sign up for a $5-10 monthly fee, especially if presented as say, $1.99 a week.

I already have a tomtom one with traffic updates included i spent £95 on it for the unit and the traffic part.
I have been waiting for this app since the 3G came out (I only bought the tomtom when I couldnt wait any longer for satnav) I dont think I would be too happy to pay a subscription for this when you can buy the dedicated GPS with no subscription.
Basically I personally would be paying a subscription for having one less device to carry around which I dont think I will do, unless it is say 1.99 per week for a year (as an example) then you still use the app but no longer have to pay for it.
I guess we will need to wait to see what is announced from Tomtom on pricing etc
Forgive my ignorance but I remember loads of discussion going on about why you would never get TBT on the iphone. Why are we now getting it? was it a limitation of the software that 3.0 addresses or some other liability type reason?
Also does anyone know what the dosck does to give enhanced GPS and how the hands free calling etc works?

I like the idea of integrating it all, but I found a Garmin Nuvi 200w for $129 a few weeks ago. It's got a 4.3" widescreen display with anti-glare. I tried mounting my iPhone in my car before, but the glare was too much and the screen was too small.

I mailed tomtom this morning to ask for pricing and they just replied to say they didn't have specific info on the software costs but the maps would likely be in the same price region as those for navigator 7

I'm not familiar with TomTom. Do people that have these devices pay a one time fee or a monthly fee? Also, are you able to listen to music on your iphone while the turn by turn is in use....I thought I heard something about an louder speaker. If you're listening to music, does the TomTom interupt when you need to make a turn?
Since none of us have the app, we have no way of knowing any of this. Its all speculation until it comes out.
Other phones come with navigation. Frankly, I think the iPhone is getting it partly because of the Pre.
The main glitch now is lack of multitasking. If you're using TBT and take a call, TBT stops and you have to manually start it again.
Also you can imagine using it while getting constant popup background notifications covering the screen and/or tones during voice output. (I would assume the latter shouldn't happen?)
The phone almost needs a different kind of notification control in this case: one that says "don't alert me while using this app".
As an iPhone 2G user who has driven over 100,000 miles in the last year I find this news to be fantastic. The announced features are enough to me to upgrade phone and buy the TomTom kit/app as soon as the Dev-Team unlocks the phone.
I really hope the kit has an AUX audio out so it can plug into my stereo. Right now my main music source is my iPhone. Moving the phone to the glass will be much better than my current location too, it currently partially blocks my main light switch.

I understand the TomTom app for the iphone isn't out yet, but people have TomTom's in the cars right now. Do they pay a one time fee or a monthly fee?
Typically you pay a one time fee for the device and preloaded maps. If you want real-time traffic over FM you typically have to pay a small fee (or at least thats how it was when I was GPS shopping 3 years ago.) Then, when new maps are released, you have the option to buy them (usually for about $100) or keep the now 'dated' maps on your device.
Don't think so. Surely it can be done with Wi-Fi, was advertised before the 3GS was announced.
xGPS has been available for jailbroken for a while and it works. It knows where you're going by updating your position via GPS. I'm sure compass can make that faster, but it's not a requirement I'm sure.
