I think for myself and don't let others dictate what I should or shouldn't like. Whether that means liking things because everyone else does or not liking things because everyone else likes them. Hating something because others like it is just the flip side of the coin from liking something and they're both just as pathetic.

Make your own decisions in life and forget about everyone else. Stop trying to be part of the crowd or trying to set yourself apart from crowd. You'll be much happier in the long run.

Is anybody else a little annoyed at how mainstream the iPhone has become? I felt so unique when I was one of the only people I knew who had the iPhone. But now, so many of my friends have it. It's become like the RAZR, it's the default phone to get on AT&T.

They may of the 3G but not the 3GS. :p

ur comment isn't really relevant, IMO. I'm not letting anybody dictate my life. I got the iPhone because it looked cool. when I first got the iPhone, it wasn't mainstream, so i wasn't following the crowd.

I still get looks when I take out my 15" MPB and iPhone in class. I feel like some of them are staring me down and thinking "show off". But, I get over it once I rediscover the joys of multi-touchness.

But I think having more iPhones is a good thing. The main good things are that it makes other phone companies to make better products and Apple add more demanded features.

In fact, I met my current girlfriend by asking what App she was playing in class. It was Boxed In :D

I felt important: my friends would always ask me to check something on the internet for them

I didn't feel like I was better than them because of it

If "checking something on the internet" is the only thing that your friends find you useful for, than either:
a) You are a person who has nothing to give to society and the only thing that makes you important is your iPhone
b) Your friends are using you for your iPhone
c) All of the above

Also, if you only use your iPhone to be 'cool' and 'better than the rest', you have wasted your money and should see a counsellor about your inferiority complex.

This reminds me when the iPhones came out and I was at a client site when this lady came up to me and showed me her new iPhone and said that I may touch it. I didn't really care that she had an iPhone and she couldn't understand why not.

It's a tool so use it. If you want to be different, but a case that is unique.

Threads like this are what made me back down from expressing why Apple is better than other companies, to friends and co-workers. I do not want to be associated with people like the op.

Yes, the phone is mainstream. Since you relied on it so much for self-worth and importance, you need to be spending your time thinking about your next move. What are you going to get next that is going to make you feel "unique" again?

I want to hear about that part of the story. That is far more entertaining.

Or

D:Find more tech savvy friends.

The iPhone is not the only internet capable phone.

1) I do contribute to society; this was just that little bit that only I could give in my group of friends

2) how many times will i have to say it: I DO NOT THINK I AM BETTER BECAUSE I HAVE THE IPHONE!!

my friends are plenty tech savvy. they just didn't have Internet capable phones

i'm late to the iphone... just got the 3GS on release day... but i didn't get it to feel special... or snobby or anything like that.... i got it cuz of all the cool things it does!

Ahh OP. I warned you early on. This kind of self indulgent post never goes well here. I see you are now doing a steady stream of backpedaling and self defense. You should have retraced this post.

Yes, unfortunately it is a real thread, you posted it. What is not real is your mental attitude toward a device. If your iphone made you feel important, then you have other issues which we can't cover here.

OWNED and put on a LEASH!!! LMAO :D No seriously, well said. And I agree... How pathetic is it that instead of celebrating other fellow iPhone users who can share the same experience and technology as you... you'd rather whine about how you're no longer the envy of all the poor dirty people of the earth who previously couldn't afford an iPhone. *Rolls eyes*

so did I. I have said (several times) that feeling special and unique was an unexpected biproduct of getting the iPhone

No, YOU chose to feel "special" and "unique" because of a material possession... That was all on you, it's not something Apple markets the iPhone as doing. You must not have a lot going on in your personal and professional life right now, if a phone is where you get your sense of pride and accomplishment.

I'm not whining about not being the envy of all the ppl who can't get an iPhone. I'm saying that I liked feeling unique. if u were one of the few ppl to have something, ur goin to feel unique. I acknowledge all the good that has come from how popular the iPhone has become

I'm not convinced this person has a professional life. The more the OP post, the more he/she sound like they are 18 or under, not hat there is anything wrong with that.;)

I seriously wish you "special people" would discover the joys of Windows 7 and get the hell out of the Mac community. You people truly impede the success of apple. You should break your friend's thumbs -- that way you could not only help them with your iPhone but wipe their arse as well. Think about how special you'll be.
