Can Apple resist an opportunity to talk up Apple Intelligence despite a small subset of users even having access to it? I thought the carrier and Apple-based ads around an unreleased feature to be bad form. They shouldn’t be able to advertise for features someone can’t experience by walking into a store.

Your point is spot on ... the reason they'll have an infomercial is the AI nonsense

The M4 update looks very modest and expected given what was shown in the Russian leaks

Re: the Mac Mini

The Mac Mini is such a low profile, low volume and low importance model that they could/should just press release that new model also.

We don't need the usual Apple virtue signaling over produced infomercial
✋🏻 The mini is small in size but huge in importance…🤌

I have access to some :apple: Intelligence features. I upgraded to 16 Pro and I am running 18.1 public beta. Yes, they should advertise Apple Intelligence because it is coming for iphone 15 and 16 users and M2, M4 iPad user.

I completely disagree. Beta features advertised as “it’s here now” and people using the new Siri in commercials despite it being unavailable is not ethical. You’re on a beta so you have it. Any normal person with a phone would rightly be irritated if they bought it based on features advertised but not yet available. It’s a show of desperation on Apple’s part.

The MKBHD line about buying something for what it is now, not what it could be rings true. This is a dangerous game for Apple to play

I will be able to pickup my v7 iPad mini 512GB Cellular next Wednesday morning with 18.0 iPadOS installed. The marketing claim is that this new device "will be able to run AI" when 18.1.x is released. However, I have the latest developer beta v 18.1 on my M4 iPad 11 2TB Cellular and not seeing much AI stuff yet.

I will guess that the least powerful CPU chip empowered to run AI will not have what it takes to be an eye opener like one might expect from the M4 processors. While my M1 Max laptop and M1 Ultra Studio will be able to run AI, the new M4s will do so more effectively?

As has been said by me many times, the difference between a full blink of the eye and half a blink of the eye in response times is usually not discernible :)

For Windows machines, do laptops outsell desktops they way they do with Apple devices? If not, I think Apple is driving customers away with their neglect of desktops and pro machines. Back in the PowerPC days this was never a problem. What is the issue now?

I have a vertical stand for my M1 laptop that would work with the M4 laptop if the frame is unchanged. With maximum memory and the 8TB SSD and a 27" Apple studio display attached, that would be more power and speed than my M1 Ultra Mac Studio with 128GB and 8TB SSD.

So are we now approaching loads that would challenge the first generations of M powered computers? Who would have thought the M1 series would be underpowered so soon? I suspect AI will be the power hogs of the future.....

That’s why this place is called MacRumors. Rumors about products are often pulled out of someone’s rear end. The peanut gallery immediately inflates the rumor to confirmed fact. Then when the rumor doesn’t pan out the recriminations begin as to how Apple screwed things up royally. Add a dash of “overpriced garbage” and a pinch of “Android has had that for years” and you’ve got a ton of clicks and comments. Lather, rinse, repeat as necessary.
add in an EU reference for added cheer squad engagement...

noticed how quiet it's been the past fortnight?
no EU decisions, fines or outrage over not getting AI features soon.

dont' worry, they'll clickbait something soon enough... :)

there's actually a good chance I might try another mini with this update.
i've got a couple decent sized 4K monitors. plenty of bluetooth speakers and compact soundbars lying around.
even some older Apple keyboards and mice.
just need a webcam and i can save a heap over an all in one box... the screen is failing on my current old Intel iMac so it needs an update...
