I use Transmission for torrents I get from public sites, ones that I don't continue seeding. ;)

For all my private and invite-only sites, I use Azureus. I seed non-stop for those. I've never had Azureus freeze or use 100% CPU or whatever, you know ... all the horror stories you read on the internet.

Your best bet would just be to try them both and see which you like better.

Transmission is very simple to use, nice little program and is inexpsensive to run. Howeer, I hate the icons it comes with though so I used CandyBar to change them. If anyone wants some alternative ones, give me a IM and I'll help you out.

uTorrent was purchased by the official BitTorrent people. and apperantly it IS being ported to OSX! It will likely be a while. But it'll happen.

In your dreams. It's in the works, but they have yet to even find a dev (hell they got one who's starting on the Windows version that took months to get familiar with the code...), and even then the idea of porting such an application so thoroughly optimized for Windows is near impossible without building from scratch.

Plus, Transmission, which is the only thing coming anywhere close to uTorrent in size and footprint, is still much larger in almost every way. uTorrent native to OSX with cocoa would rival Azureus.

Plus it's a bit fishy that a company with so many ties to the same organizations and groups (MAFIAA basically) that are rabidly anti-piracy own a closed-source application like uTorrent...sounds like they're either going to wreck some aspect of uTorrent or just render it useless.

I want to shoot the idiot who started that whole idea.

Transmission is just as much of a resource hog as the likes of Azureus and uTorrent with Crossover or Parallels when you have more than just a couple idle torrents open.
