Hey guys,

I plan on buying an ipad retina or maybe wait for the ipad mini with retina... Either way, I want to completely replace my laptop. The only thing I use it for is photography, schoolwork, browsing the web, torrenting shows and watching them.

So I got the photography part down, I can use the thunder to sd card reader and just transfer my files that way and then edit them in photoshop(dont do much in there anyways).

I forget the name but theres stuff to replace microsoft word on an ipad and ill buy an external keyboard/dock for it.

And the last thing I do is watch some korean dramas that I torrent. So I was wondering is there a way to torrent them and watch them?

Ill still have my laptop, but am going to give to my little brother and want to use it as little as possible. Probably the only thing ill do is transfer my files via dropbox and use it like a external hd

Good luck with that. In about 1-3 weeks time you won't be able to jailbreak a device again possibly for a long time. If 6.1.3 cannot be jailbroken then IOS7 will be the next jailbreak point and then it will be a longer wait for IOS to be jailbroken.

Ummm ok?^

I will probably watch american shows as well but can someone explain to me how xbmc works. So I can watch shows without downloading them but do i need a computer? or just watch directly from my ipad?

What he's trying to say is that Apple is currently testing iOS 6.1.3, which contains a fix for the current jailbreak. Once that is out, and stocks of devices with the old versions disappear from stores, it's very likely that you won't be able to jailbreak again for a very long time. A year wouldn't be a bad guess, assuming iOS 7 this fall. Might not even ever happen again. To be blunt, if ever there was a time to buy an iOS device, it's right now.

As for torrents, you don't need jailbreak for that, but it's easier with jailbreak. There are services that allow you to feed them torrent files, which they will download for you, and give you direct download links instead. Then you can use normal file managers from the App Store to download then. If you do jailbreak, there's an actual torrent client in Cydia, called iTransmission. With that and iFile you can download whatever torrent you want and feed it to whatever app you want, including App Store video players.

Yep. If you're going to get an iPad, now's the time to do it. Otherwise you'll have to download torrents to your computer and convert them prior to watching.

I give it a week at most before 6.1.3 drops, and then it's bye bye to all new jailbreakers.

This is what I mean. The window for a jailbreak is short. If you don't buy a device soon that has 6.1.2 or lower, you're out of luck (probably).

hmm ok thanks guys. I guess ill buy one tomorrow when I get my paycheck. But is it not likely they find another way to jailbreak it?

Ok so if I use itransmission, i can torrent, and can I play mp4 files just like that?

Also, I have an iphone 5 right now, how do i update to 6.1.2 on it. It's jailbroken but I try updating and it just keeps loading and the page never loads.

restore and upgrade the 5 through iTunes and then re-jailbreak.

Not sure about being able to JB the next iOS update, plenty of folks were calling the "JB" scene dead back in December, but here we are. Have faith in the developers (i do). That being said it could be a few months.

Sorry to go off topic, but is VLC still the best choice for a good media player. I use VLC on my mac but have not used the iPhone version
VLC is no longer available in the App Store. I've since switched to GoodPlayer & it's handled all of the video files I've thrown at it.

well I would love to try all this but the stupid guy gave me a black ipad instead of a white one... fml....Didnt realize til I got home and Bestbuy was closed...will be going back tomorrow.

VLC for iOS sucks big time, Only accepts file from one folder, not even sub folders. It turns off the sound when you mute the phone (it should not mute media, only notifications and crap). Lots of other small stuff that I do not remember.

XBMC is the mediaplayer for iOS, only problem is that I believe it does not use the hardware acceleration, and thus use more battery. I will try to read up on that though.

I use AVPlayer on my iPhone and AVPlayer HD on my iPad 2 and they work fine with almost all formats of video.

No he doesn't, you can still download torrents with a non-jailbroken ipad

Can you elaborate on that ? I do not know of any way to download torrents on iPad without jailbreaking and using iTransmission.

What if I have a back up of a current iphone 4S with 6.1.2... and then purchase an iphone 5 in a couple weeks with a future iOS... If I do a restore from the 6.1.2 backup on the iPhone 5, will that work?

Nope. It will only back up apps and data. Not iOS. The only way to go back to an iOS is by saving a blob of your device, and that is only device-specific, meaning that same device with the same serial number.

But you probably have some time. Even if 6.1.3 drops today, there's no way that the phones sitting on store shelves today will have 6.1.3 when you open it up in a few weeks. At least, that's the general thinking.

So I got my ipad, im trying to torrent, but it just stays at 0. Im using itransmission 3 and nothing downloads. I tried downloading stuff at eztv but it doesnt download :(

Not sure why you are facing issues. I use iTransmission 2 and it downloads fine, and yes eztv too.

Android prob suits you better to be honest

The way suggested in post# 4 is to use some 3rd party website which will download the torrent on their own servers and you can then download the files from their server to iPad / iPhone using some sort of file manager.
Not really a solution per se.
