Of course, skin has oil and anytime you press a glossy button it will temporarily stick and move with your skin. It will happen to all Touch ID buttons, if not at first then later. The only solution isn't ready yet.

I'm just saying that my first MacBook Touch ID was definitely loose and my new one is not. If it happens later (not sure it will?) fair enough. But if I'm forking out >£3k for my MacBook, I should be happy. And now I am :)

Mine makes the same kind of noise almost like it's floating loose in it's designated spot. When I touch it it makes a significant noise which I don't think it's normal. To verify that I wasn't imagining things, I went to two different stores: One in Stoneridge and the other at Oakridge. The demo units at Stoneridge felt solid and made no significant noise while the ones at the second location were about 50-50. Some made noise while others felt solidly in place. I could not discern any noise coming from any of the 13" models. I opened a case with Apple and took the call on my Mac 15". The person at the other end could hear what I was talking about and suggested that I make an appointment with a 'genius' at one of the stores - which I did. When I arrived I was told that if the button functionally performed that they would not initiate a case and suggested that I get in touch with Apple via my existing case number. They refused to even review the case or add their own notes insisting that I could have a refund if I so desired and then would have to re-purchase my Mac. I will be contacting their phone support tomorrow to see about getting a replacement though. This was not a trivial nor frivolous purchase and I expect better quality control from such an expensive piece of equipment

Mine was loose on my 15". Felt like it was sticking to my finger as I lifted it. Bothered me quite a bit.

Got another one today and it is solid. If I'm paying >£3k for a MacBook, I need to be satisfied.

I'm speaking with customer support right now to have a new one shipped out (express replacement) before returning mine. It is custom ordered so not available in stores. Fingers crossed that this incoming unit will not have a wobbly Touch ID / Power button.

What did Apple say? My Touch ID sensor is loose as well and it's really bothering me too -- this was a large purchase for me as well, and the loose sensor feels like a strange oversight that makes it feel less solid.

They are putting a hold on my card for the total amount of this new unit, and it will fall off after I've returned my current machine. If I had a standard configuration I could just swap it a local Apple Store.

I basically said that I wasn't satisfied with this nuisance because (and rightly so) of the $3k+ price tag. If this was a $650 machine, eh no problem.

mine is loose too.
in addition to this when it gets warm my 15" (2016) is making the noise if I tilt it left and right.
when it is cold however, there isn't any noise at all.

Same experience here.
13 Touch ID is solid. 15 is very loose
Hi all -

I have two MacBook Pro 13" with Touch Bars and the Touch ID Sensors are solid. I just purchased a 15" at the Apple Store yesterday and there is some play in the Touch ID Sensor. Makes an annoying click and slides around just a bit when touched. I am also concerned it may wear/fall out eventually.

Anybody else have this experience?

Hello:

Sorry to take up this topic (and sorry for my bad english).

I'm still not sure if the looseness of the touch id button is a normal action or not.

My laptop is a macbook pro 15 mid 2017 TB.

I add link to a video I just recorded. What do you think?

Thanks and best regards!

I just tried tapping on mine like that and it sounds the same. I think that is completely normal.

But it is solid when I tap it from a normal operating distance.

Thanks for your answer!

Anyone else with this laptop that can test if touch id button has the same looseness and to confirm that it is OK?

Best regards.

I think if you tap any key like that it will make a noise.

As long as it is solid when you press from a normal operating distance it’s fine.

I know what a loose one feels like, as my first model last year was ‘sticking’ to my finger when I pressed it normally.

I changed it (had to wait 4 weeks!) but this one doesn’t do that.

Difficult to explain any better. But as long as it’s not loose in it’s normal position, I wouldn’t worry about it.

If it helps, go to the Apple Store and play around with a few there. You’ll probably notice a tapping noise if you hit any from a higher distance.

Hi All
I am currently owning a 2021 MacBook Pro 14 inch with M1 Pro Chip and my Touch ID key is just moving from side to side.I mean by when I am going to press on the Touch ID key to lock my computer the key starts to move to the left then to the right.
