I had to unenroll from beta and went back to release version as this was driving me nuts. I know it's a beta, and these kind of things are to be expected, but I just couldn't temporarily handle this particular issue.

So what will it take to get rid of this garbage? I un-enrolled from the beta program, so would the next regular OS update potentially fix it? Is there anything I can do right now? My Air is about to be a year old but I'll take this thing to an Apple Store and have them install an actual functioning operating system that doesn't break the trackpad if I really have to.

I think the next OS update will probably sort this...

No point in taking your MBA into Apple; it's not a physical issue, but software

I would only ask you to please stop abusing the warranty, this is not going to help you since this is a software issue.
Hi, it has suddenly started working consistently. I have upgraded to 12.1 beta 3 a few days back. Immediately after that, I didn't work. Now it's working with force click in all pressure sensitivities be it light, medium or firm.
I didn't take it to the service centre.
I found some old, inactive threads in Reddit where a few encountered this on their 2015 MBP.
Thanks.

Hi All, Apple seems fixed this error in ver 12.1 Be‌‌ta 4. I've read in a VietNam forum about that. Anyone ever updated to be‌ta 4?

After I installed Monterey 12.1 today my trackpad became inoperative. A mouse still works but I prefer the trackpad by far. Glad to read that the latest beta appears to fix that problem but any idea when 12.2 or an incremental update will arrive? Thanks

MacBook Air 2015, installed Monterey after using High Sierra for 5 years just to try out new macOS.. and the first thing I notice that the trackpad is unresponsive as hell, drag+scroll with 3 fingers randomly works or not. What the hell? Trackpad is the integral part of macOS and they f*ck it up like this by software when it was literally perfect years before? Is this supposed to make me consider buying new MacBook because the trackpad started lagging making overall experience less snappy? No, it only makes me downgrade back to High Sierra where things actually work as they are supposed to.

Is anyone else still having this issue? I'm on 12.2 and the sensitivity of my Macbook Pro's Trackpad is not great for Tap to click

Also posted this in another thread. Do you think it's somehow related to the Photo OCR feature? It was rolled out on both Monterey and iOS 15 and both of them had touch/tap issues.

I also had missing taps after upgrading to iOS 15. Same vibes on Monterey. Also both OS have some troubles with registering taps when zooming, scrolling pictures and PDFs.
