Not impressed with the trade in here too, but also the S5 features are not enough to make it a must have. Always on would be nice but I can wait a year... and possibly 2 depending on features coming in the future

Having both the S4 and S5 in the lineup makes zero sense. They never said your watch is junk.

hmm lets see if I devalue your worth to a price that you can consider junk would you not be upset? And I already said that I see why they wouldn't want to have both in the line up. read the original post

Bingo.

There's an old adage in business that says never to tell a customer "No" -- always say "Yes" but for things you don't want to do price them so that the customer chooses to go elsewhere on their own. (or you can subcontract the task)

Apple doesn't seem to want people to trade in their old device, so they're undercutting the myriad other wholesalers. Yet Apple can still advertise themselves as recycling old devices since they *do* have a buyback program. Just not one anyone wants to use.

So if someone doesn't like the price Apple's offering -- go somewhere else. Lots of options to sell your old device to a wholesaler simply and easily.

So let me ask you this, if apple puts a price saying they will only trade your watch in 110 do you think a smart buyer wouldn't see that as a price they should buy from a private seller? its like KBB for the AW in my opinion. but I made this post because it is a legitimate argument to wonder why something worth 800 is only worth 110. just saying

Are Apple setting the used market price or following it?
fair question and def up for debate. I would argue the side they are setting the used market. its no difference than what they are doing with the iPhone offering 600 for an iPhone XS Max with 256gb storage. this is how you know your value of product because apple put it out there.

Not at all.

A wholesale buyer, especially one that’s well below other wholesale buyers, doesn’t set the private sale market price.

but it does happen, I've haggled with people in the past who have argued the exact point I made.

Low ballers trying to bargain you down. They’ll use every trick to convince you to take their offer.

For a true view of market pricing go see eBay and swappa completed sales.

What drives resale price is the value people see in it relative to what they could get buying new. Always on display may well depress the prior model used pricing.

This is consistent with IUP for sure, pay half in one year, get half off (extend loan 1 year) on a new one. But you can certainly get more on the secondary market, not so much Watch.

Are you speaking about my value as a human or the value of a watch? Your post doesn't make it very clear tbh and if were talking about a watch I could not care one iota what they value the watch at currently. It sounds like you're the one considering your watch junk. I own a SBSS S4. So my watch's 'value' according to Apple is the exact same as yours. However, I understand Apple has zero obligation to buy my watch back after I used it for a year. If you can get more money elsewhere then go elsewhere. Apple doesn't have any policies in place for selling your watch through another party.

I read your post. You state that the only reason Apple doesn't sell the S4 is to help boost S5 sales. I don't see any other reasoning by you for it not being in the lineup. Where does the S4 fit into the lineup price wise? The S3 is at $199. The S5 is at $399. Are they really going to offer the S4 at $299? No, that just muddies the lineup and adds confusion. The S4 likely isn't cheap enough to build to get to $199. IMO having a $199 option in the S3 is fantastic.

You're the one devaluing your watch it sounds like. Just don't sell it to Apple... And honestly unless you're dying for the always on display I see zero reason to upgrade and I am perfectly happy to hang onto my watch for at least another year.

it is truly aggravating dealing with lowball offers however I don't think it helps knowing that even if I wanted to go through apple it would
If you can get more money elsewhere then do that. Apple doesn't need to offer to buy back anyone's devices. I don't see any reason to upgrade from a S4 unless you are deadset on having the always on display. If there was a significant difference between the S4 and S5 chip they would have mentioned it quite a bit in the keynote like they did the A13.

This is like when people complain about how much GameStop offers for trade ins. If you think you can sell it for more on your own then do it.

think you’re mis

What? A great Apple day? I am telling you not to bother spending your money if you have a S4 lol. Clearly not advocating for Apple. Just don't understand being upset by them not offering you what you want. If you feel it's more valuable than them you should sell it on your own for what you think is a fair price. Then other people can decide what they deem to be fair value.

Spoiler alert, the SS models have really really bad resale value. Most likely because the people interested in SS models aren't looking to get a used one.
