When the 2021 MBP 16 is out, how many of you consider trading in your M1 mac (MBA/MBP13)?

What method would you use to trade in? Apple, eBay, Craiglist?

MBP 16 won't be a "trade" the price will be $1800 -- $2500 starting while the current M1s start at $999 for the AIR. The math isn't there for a trade.

For selling Apple iPads, iPhones, Laptops I like Swappa.

I use Mac of all Trades to get cash for my used Macs.

Also, I had a 16" MBP before and found it too big. I will likely just get a 14" MBP and keep my m1 Air as a travel/studio machine. With no fans, it is great for a recording booth.

No chance, a MBP 16 would be way too big. I'd only look at upgrading for a newer Air/MBP 13 or a MB12 if that ever came back.

I had 16" before and it is just too big for me. I traded my 16" MBP for M1 MBA and love it. I would love to trade my M1 MBA for a 14" MBP with M1 vNext or M2 but not a must for me.

I'm waiting for a redesigned MBP13 or 14.

I sold my intel MBA on eBay on a no final value fee weekend. Was straightforward enough. Apple's trade in values in the UK are dismal, I wouldn't touch them.

I usually resell my iPhone when upgrading via eBay or a phone recycler for the same reason.

I don't believe you will be able to trade in a M1 MBP or MBA as Apple only allows that when a new model of those same machines has been released. I could be wrong

Your best bet is to use Swappa for a private sale.
I believe this must be correct. I was curious what amount of credit I would get for my MBA M1. I attempted to select it in a possible trade-in on MBP and there was not a way to select the MBA M1.

As soon as a 4 port MBP 13 is available, I'll be looking to trade in or sell my M1 MBP 13' to help pay for it. I want at least 32GB of ram (I run lots of VMs) and a bit more graphics processing power.

Talk about timing. lol My post was barely finished and you come through with validation. Hopefully, you will get what you need very soon. Big day tomorrow. :D
Yep yep! Time to use some of my maxed out PTO (already got it off). lol. Should be noted that I absolutely love my M1 MBP - I am very happy with it. Going to be a fun day tomorrow either way :D

Currently using a 16" for my daily workloads, but planning to switch out for a 14"! Now that we are remote forever in my department It doesn't make any sense for me to carry a 16", It spends 90% of it's time hooked up to two ultra wides :)

I wouldn't consider the 16", too heavy, but I might trade my M1 MBA for the 14". It depends on how much Apple would give me in trade, but they would be the most likely for my trade-in...

I wouldn't expect more than $500 for the M1.
That would probably be enough, the MBA really doesn't fit what I need so well so I hardly use it. I would really want more RAM and active cooling. A faster processor would be nice. (I do a lot of work in VM's as well) And now that I'm thinking about it, a brighter monitor too. Maybe I'll wait until there's a miniLED 14".

I wasn't aware you could do VM already with the M series. I don't closely follow that aspect so, I may be behind the times. lol

Not x86 yet, but Arm based VM's. (WoA and Linux) Sadly, you can't run Big Sur in a VM!

I've been using VM's since before Connectix Virtual PC, so I got used to it a long time ago. It makes it so easy for testing and keeping environments totally separate. I doubt you're behind the times, just different needs. :)

I will either trade in my MBP Intel or my MBA M1 for a new MBP M2 or whatever it will be called. Yes I will take a hit.
If at all possible, do the trade-in in person at the Apple Store. You don't want to risk getting screwed over by Phobio. I know you had a thread on that before but, just a friendly reminder to onlookers as well.

The return window on my M1 MBP 13 (512/8) is open until the beginning of August, which hopefully will provide enough time to assess the newcomers. I think that if by some miracle Apple knocked a half pound of weight off the new MBP 16, I could go for it, since I'm wanting a bigger display. Which also makes the 14 an interesting option, too. OTOH, I've complained on another thread about the MBP's hard edge up front, so could also end up with an M1 MBA and its clam shell profile. These are happy dilemmas. Whatever I end up with, it will be the best laptop I've ever owned.
