Was walking by my local Apple Store in UK today about 30mins before they opened and all of the staff were assembled for a training session (watching a video of watch). The Genius Bar screens were all running slides and I took the attached photo.

Sorry Sir/Madam, I'm afraid the new Apple watch won't work with the iPhone you have. Let me show you our latest iPhones, and how much they cost, then we can look at what watch you may like to have :)

Because nobody owns an iPhone 5, 5s or 5c.

Ugh, can't wait! I've been jonesing to buy a new Apple product for awhile.

Last one was my iPhone 6, which I don't count since I always get the new iPhone lol. Last non-phone product was probably my time capsule 10 months ago =\

:D

I wonder what the spread is.

I mean all iPhones from iPhone 1 to iPhone 4s can't be on the rubbish tip can they?

I have a feeling people who haven't upgraded their iPhones in 3+ years won't be first at the gate for  Watch...

I see

So that won't include the people here that are saying they won't be upgrading their "Watch" for 3, 4, 5+ years then?

I would imagine quite a few of them are in use without cell service as iPod touches for kids. And of the people still using them as phones I'd imagine most wouldn't be interested in the :apple:watch.

Normally watches haven't been something that people replace often. That said I wouldn't be overly surprised if a few years down the line Apple drops support for older watches in iOS.

I doubt it. That would be like newer versions of iTunes dropping support for older iPhones/iPods. There's no reason for them to do it.

But, I'll guarantee newer versions of Watch OS will drop support for older watches.

Or another way to say it is, Apple Watch won't work with devices almost 4 year old. You would be daft to expect it to.

Anyway, I don't think someone who is stuck with iPhone 4s or older would want to spend that kind of money on a smart watch.

PS: Looks like someone have just beat me to the last phrase.

Is difficult to make out from the photo (apologies but I had to zoom in!!) but from memory the screens said something like "what does it mean to be Watch ready", "Brand campaign".

Brand Campaign? Wow Apple may be going all out to market this watch! I expect to see some pretty cool ads

Well I certainly hope they have a brand campaign around the Watch. And hopefully it's something Angela Ahrendts has been involved in more so than Phil Schiller's marketing department.

This is what I'm thinking. I wonder if the release date will be sooner than people are anticipating lately.

Tim Cook said the Apple Watch will start SHIPPING in April, so maybe pre-orders will start middle to late March

That's not really training on the watch itself. People are bound to ask question at the Apple Store about the watch and they are just going over what information can be shared (not much). Basically, "Don't speculate on the watch, when it will be released, its battery life, or anything else about it. Don't make disparaging remarks about the watch or its competitors. Express excitement about the watch. Direct customers to the website." Low level Apple employees won't be trained on the watch until just a few days before launch. It's part of how they prevent leaks.
